Chapter 12 - Between Life and Loss

Sarah rushed toward Kevin, panic rising in her chest.

She dropped to her knees beside him and gently lifted his head, resting it in her lap.

Blood was flowing heavily from his wound. It was too much.

For a moment, her hands trembled, but then she remembered a technique Kevin himself had once taught her.

Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to stay calm. She quickly pulled out a handkerchief from her bag, folded it, and pressed it firmly against the injury.

"Stay with me," she whispered softly.

Without wasting a second, she tore a piece from her dress and wrapped it tightly around his head to stop the bleeding.

Her fingers were stained with his blood, but she did not stop until she was sure he was still breathing.

Gently cupping his face in her trembling hands, she leaned closer.

"Kevin, nothing will happen to you. I will not let anything happen to you."

Kevin's eyes were half-open. Pain was clearly visible on his face, yet a faint smile appeared.

With great effort, he slowly raised his hand and touched her cheek.

"Wow… you know karate too," he said weakly.

"I am impressed with your skills."

Sarah's breath shook.

"Kevin, this is not the time to talk. You are losing too much blood. We need help."

Her control broke.

"Help! Help!" she shouted desperately.

Hearing her cries, Emma came running back.

The moment Emma saw Kevin's condition, panic showed on her face, but she did not freeze. She rushed to Sarah's side.

Together, they carefully lifted Kevin and placed his arms over their shoulders as they tried to keep him steady. His weight felt heavier with every step, but they kept moving.

They managed to get him into the car. Emma quickly took the driver's seat, while Sarah sat in the back, holding Kevin close.

The car rushed toward the hospital.

Inside, everything felt tense and silent.

Sarah gently placed Kevin's head in her lap and kept brushing his hair, trying to keep him conscious.

She remembered something Kevin had once told her. Keep talking to the patient. Do not let them lose consciousness.

Her throat tightened, but she forced herself to speak.

"Kevin, stay with me. Please."

Tears filled her eyes, yet she tried to smile.

"For you, I can fight anyone. You matter to me more than anything," she said softly.

"You were there when I needed someone the most. I cannot let anything happen to you."

Kevin looked at her with half-open eyes. There was pain, but also warmth.

"Sarah," he said weakly,

"you are the most beautiful girl, not just by face but by heart."

He paused to gather strength.

"Never think you have done anything wrong."

Slowly, he held her hand and kissed it.

"You are too pure to hurt anyone."

His grip weakened.

"If possible, take care of Eva. Raise her like your own. Give her a mother's love."

His voice grew softer.

"Maybe this is the last time I am seeing you."

Panic filled Sarah instantly.

"No, Kevin. What are you saying? Nothing will happen to you."

She hugged him tightly, but he did not respond.

His body became weak in her arms.

"Kevin?" she whispered.

Within seconds, his head fell to the side and he lost consciousness.

"Kevin, please open your eyes," she cried, shaking him gently.

Emma looked back, her heart racing.

"Sarah, do not panic. He will be fine. We have reached the hospital."

The car stopped suddenly.

They rushed out and carried Kevin inside.

The moment the hospital staff saw him, everything changed.

"This is Dr. Kevin," one of them shouted.

"He is badly injured. Prepare the emergency room."

The quiet space turned into chaos. Nurses started running, stretchers moved quickly, and voices echoed everywhere.

And in the middle of it all, Sarah stood still, her hands stained with his blood.

They quickly rushed him onto a stretcher.

As the staff pulled him away, Sarah instinctively held his hand, but within seconds his grip loosened and slipped away.

The moment their hands parted, something inside her broke.

An unbearable emptiness filled her chest.

"Kevin," she whispered softly.

She stood outside, trembling and crying, feeling as if she had lost a part of herself.

After some time, Kevin's family arrived.

The moment Sarah saw Eva, she rushed forward and hugged her tightly, holding her like a mother who had found her lost child.

Eva clung to her, gently playing with her hair, feeling safe in her arms.

But suddenly, Kevin's mother came forward and pulled Eva away from her.

"There's no need for this drama!" she snapped sharply.

Pointing at Sarah, her eyes filled with anger, she said,

"My son is fighting between life and death because of you! Ever since you came into his life, he's been obsessed with you!"

Before Sarah could react, she grabbed her arm tightly.

"What have you done to him? What kind of spell have you cast on him?"

Sarah stood frozen.

Each word hit her harder than the last.

Slowly, doubt began to creep in.

Was it really her fault?

"After everything I've said, you're still standing here?" Kevin's mother shouted.

"Get out of this hospital!"

Tears streamed down Sarah's face as she dropped to her knees.

"Please, just let him get better," she pleaded softly.

"I'll leave. I promise. I won't come back."

But the woman didn't listen.

She forcefully dragged Sarah and pushed her outside.

Sarah stumbled and fell to the ground, her elbows and knees scraping against the rough floor.

Pain shot through her body, but she didn't react.

Inside, something had already broken.

Sitting there, numb, she suddenly overheard two nurses whispering nearby:

"Dr. Kevin's condition is critical. Only prayers can save him now."

Her heart skipped a beat.

In that moment, all her pain and humiliation faded away.

She looked ahead and saw a church at a short distance.

Without thinking, she got up and started running.

Her wounds were still bleeding, but she didn't feel any of it.

She pushed the door open and stepped inside.

The silence wrapped around her.

Slowly, she folded her hands, closed her eyes, and bowed her head.

"Please save Kevin," she whispered, her voice breaking.

"Bring him out of danger. Please."

She sank to the floor, completely surrendering herself.

Time passed, but she didn't move.

Eyes closed, hands folded,

holding on to nothing but faith,

waiting for a sign that he would be okay.
