Chapter 7 - AARAV HIDDEN PAST

The door slammed open with a deafening force.

Three men rushed in.

Not students.

Not staff.

Strangers.

Their eyes scanned the room instantly—

And then locked onto them.

"Run!" Aarav shouted.

Everything happened at once.

Kavya didn't think.

She just moved.

Aarav pulled her hand and ran toward the back exit of the library.

Raghav followed closely behind.

Footsteps thundered behind them.

Fast.

Relentless.

"Left!" Raghav shouted.

They turned sharply into a narrow corridor lined with old shelves.

Dust flew into the air as they brushed past.

Kavya's heart pounded so loudly she could barely hear anything else.

"Why are they chasing us?!" she cried.

"Because now you matter," Aarav replied without slowing down.

"THAT DOESN'T HELP!"

A loud crash echoed behind them—

One of the men had knocked over a shelf.

"They're gaining!" Raghav warned.

The corridor ended in a broken window.

Aarav stopped.

Looked back.

Calculated.

"Out," he said.

"What?!" Kavya stared at the window. "That's a drop!"

"Trust me."

There was no time to argue.

Aarav climbed out first, then turned back, holding his hand out.

Kavya hesitated—

Just for a second.

Then took it.

He helped her down carefully.

Not gently.

But safely.

Raghav jumped down right after.

"Go!" Aarav said.

They ran again.

This time into the open campus.

The sky had turned dark.

Clouds heavy.

Wind picking up.

Almost like the world itself was reacting.

They didn't stop until they reached the far edge of the campus—

An empty basketball court.

Kavya bent slightly, trying to catch her breath.

"This… is insane…" she gasped.

Aarav looked back.

No one followed.

For now.

"We can't stay here," he said.

Kavya straightened up.

Her eyes filled with a mix of anger and fear.

"Enough," she said.

Aarav froze.

"No more running. No more half-truths," she continued.

"You're telling me everything. Right now."

Raghav didn't interrupt this time.

Because he knew—

This moment had been coming.

Aarav looked at Kavya.

Really looked at her.

And then—

He nodded.

"Fine."

Silence settled around them.

Even the wind seemed to slow.

"My father wasn't just working a missing persons case," Aarav began.

Kavya listened carefully.

"He discovered something bigger."

"What?" she asked.

Aarav's voice lowered.

"A network."

The word hung heavy.

"Not just kidnappings," he continued.

"But information control."

Kavya frowned.

"I don't understand."

"They don't just remove people," Aarav explained.

"They remove information."

A chill ran through her.

"Anyone who sees something important… something dangerous…"

"They disappear," Raghav finished.

Kavya's mind raced.

"The girl…" she whispered.

Aarav nodded.

"She saw something."

"And now they think I did too?" Kavya asked.

"Yes."

Silence.

Kavya wrapped her arms around herself.

Trying to process.

"This is too much…" she said quietly.

Aarav stepped closer.

"I didn't want you involved," he said.

"But I am," she replied.

A pause.

Then Kavya asked the question that had been building inside her—

"What happened to your father… exactly?"

Aarav's expression changed.

Darker.

Heavier.

"They staged it," he said.

Kavya's heart tightened.

"Made it look like an accident."

"But you don't believe that," she said.

"No."

Another silence.

"I was there," Aarav added.

Kavya's breath caught.

"What?"

"I saw him before…" Aarav said slowly.

"Before it happened."

His eyes grew distant.

Like he was reliving it.

"He told me to run," he continued.

"To forget everything."

A pause.

"I didn't."

Kavya felt something shift inside her.

Not fear.

Not confusion.

Something deeper.

Understanding.

"That's why you're like this," she said softly.

Aarav looked at her.

"Like what?"

"Always holding back. Always watching," she replied.

A faint, almost sad smile touched his lips.

"Yeah," he said.

"Something like that."

A quiet moment passed between them.

Then—

Kavya did something unexpected.

She stepped closer.

Close enough that there was barely any space between them.

"You should've told me earlier," she said.

Aarav's voice was softer now.

"I was trying to protect you."

Kavya shook her head.

"You don't get to decide that."

Another pause.

Then—

She said something that changed everything.

"I'm not leaving."

Aarav froze.

"What?"

"I'm not walking away," she repeated.

"Kavya—"

"No," she interrupted.

"You said it yourself. I'm already part of this."

Her voice steadied.

"So now… I stay."

Silence.

Raghav looked between them.

Tension thick.

Then—

He smiled faintly.

"Well," he said,

"guess we're all in this together now."

Aarav didn't smile.

But he didn't argue either.

Because deep down—

He knew she wasn't going anywhere.

And strangely—

A part of him didn't want her to.

The wind picked up again.

Stronger this time.

And far away—

Unseen—

Someone watched them.

A voice whispered into the darkness—

"They've crossed the line."

A pause.

Then—

"Prepare the next move."

Back at the court—

Kavya looked at Aarav.

"Now what?" she asked.

Aarav's eyes hardened.

"Now…"

He took a slow breath.

"We stop running."
