The symbol didn't look like much.
Just a faint marking on the wall—easy to miss, easy to ignore.
But now—
It felt like everything.
"Which way?" Kavya asked.
Aarav scanned the area quickly.
Then pointed toward the lower corridor.
"That direction," he said.
Raghav frowned. "You're guessing."
"No," Aarav replied.
"I'm remembering."
That didn't sound comforting.
They moved fast.
Down the staircase.
Into the dimly lit corridor below.
The college looked completely different at night.
Empty.
Silent.
Almost like a completely different place.
Kavya walked in the middle, her senses alert.
Every sound echoed louder.
Every shadow felt alive.
"Tell me something," she said quietly.
"What?" Aarav asked.
"If your father found this symbol before…"
"…why didn't he stop them?"
Aarav's jaw tightened.
"He tried."
Silence.
"And that's why he died," Raghav added.
Kavya didn't speak after that.
They walked deeper into the corridor.
And then—
They saw it.
Another symbol.
This time—
On a door.
An old storage room.
Kavya's heartbeat quickened.
"This has to be it," she whispered.
Aarav stepped forward slowly.
His hand reached for the handle.
"Wait," Raghav said suddenly.
Aarav paused.
"What?" he asked.
Raghav hesitated.
Just for a second.
But it was enough.
Kavya noticed.
"Raghav?" she said.
He looked at her.
And something in his expression—
Shifted.
"I think we should leave," he said.
Kavya frowned.
"What? Why?"
"This is exactly what they want," Raghav continued.
"They're leading us here."
Aarav's eyes narrowed.
"And you realized that now?" he asked.
Raghav didn't respond.
The silence stretched.
Heavy.
Uncomfortable.
Kavya looked between them.
"What's going on?" she asked.
Raghav exhaled slowly.
"I just don't think this is a good idea," he said.
Aarav stepped closer.
"Or you don't want us to open that door."
The words landed hard.
Kavya's heart skipped.
"Wait…" she whispered.
Raghav's expression hardened.
"That's not what I'm saying."
"Then say what you are saying," Aarav replied.
A pause.
Long.
Tense.
Then—
Raghav looked at Kavya.
And said the one thing she wasn't ready to hear.
"I tried to keep you out of this."
Her breath caught.
"Tried?" she repeated.
Aarav's voice dropped.
"What did you do, Raghav?"
Silence.
Then—
Raghav laughed softly.
But there was no humor in it.
"You really want to know?" he said.
Aarav didn't hesitate.
"Yes."
Another pause.
Then—
Raghav spoke.
"I told them about you."
Everything stopped.
Kavya felt like the ground disappeared beneath her.
"…What?" she whispered.
Aarav's eyes darkened instantly.
"You what?"
Raghav didn't look away.
"I told them about you," he repeated.
Silence.
Deafening silence.
Kavya's chest tightened.
"You… told them?" she said, her voice breaking slightly.
Raghav stepped closer.
"I had to."
"No, you didn't!" she snapped.
"You don't understand—"
"Then make me understand!" Kavya shouted.
Her eyes filled with anger.
And hurt.
Raghav's voice lowered.
"They already knew something was wrong," he said.
"They were watching."
A pause.
"If I didn't give them something…"
"…they would've taken everything."
Kavya shook her head.
"So you gave them me?" she said.
The words hit harder than anything else.
Raghav flinched.
"I was trying to control the situation," he said.
Aarav stepped forward.
"You don't control them," he said coldly.
Raghav met his gaze.
"No," he admitted.
"But I can survive them."
That was it.
That was the difference.
Aarav's fists clenched.
"You didn't just betray her," he said.
"You betrayed us."
Raghav didn't argue.
Because he knew—
It was true.
Kavya stood there.
Silent.
The anger inside her slowly turning into something worse.
Disappointment.
"I trusted you," she said quietly.
Raghav looked at her.
"I know."
"And you still did it."
Another pause.
"Yes."
That honesty hurt more than any lie could have.
Kavya stepped back.
"Stay away from me," she said.
Raghav didn't move.
Didn't argue.
Because for the first time—
He had no defense.
Aarav turned toward the door.
"We're not leaving," he said.
Kavya looked at him.
"You still want to go inside?" she asked.
Aarav nodded.
"Yes."
"Even after this?"
"Yes."
A pause.
Then he added—
"Because now we know how serious this is."
Kavya looked at the door.
Then back at Aarav.
Her trust was shaken.
Her world cracked.
But one thing remained—
Her decision.
"I'm coming with you," she said.
Aarav didn't argue.
He just nodded.
Then—
He opened the door.
It creaked slowly.
Darkness inside.
Unknown.
Danger waiting.
Behind them—
Raghav stood still.
Watching.
Alone.
And for the first time—
He looked unsure.
Very unsure.
