Chapter 11 - Chapter 11 - Dual Eclipse Fox

The light held for a long moment.

Then — slowly — it began to organize itself.

What had been formless and expanding now pulled inward. Condensing. Tightening around Foxy's outline like something being rewritten from the inside.

Aiden hadn't moved from the edge of his seat.

 Ailyn watched without blinking.

 Qalish's system flickered.

--------------------------------------------------------------

[Evolution Path Selection — Ember Shade Fox]

--------------------------------------------------------------

Qalish didn't hesitate.

Third path.

Always was.

[Path Selected: Dual Eclipse Fox]

[Evolution initiating...]

[Cost: 100 MP]

[Deducting from Monster Points...]

The light surged—

 Then stopped.

 Foxy flinched.

The glow around her flickered — unsteady — like a flame caught in wind.

 Then dimmed.

[Evolution Failed]

[Insufficient Crystal rank support]

[F Rank Crystal — Evolution Boost: 10%]

[Boost too low to stabilize dual-element evolution path]

[100 MP consumed. Materials intact.]

[Retry available.]

Silence.

Foxy sat back down slowly.

She looked at Qalish.

Not upset. Just... waiting.

Qalish exhaled through his nose.

Of course.

I should have expected this.

--------------------------------------------------------------

A new panel appeared.

 [Crystal Rank Evolution Boost Reference]

 F Rank — 10%

E Rank — 20%

D Rank — 30%

C Rank — 40%

B Rank — 50%

A Rank — 60% + 10% Hidden Evolution Trigger

S Rank — 70% + 20% Hidden Evolution Trigger

SS Rank — 80% + 30% Hidden Evolution Trigger

SSS+ Rank — 90% + 40% All Hidden Evolutions Unlocked

[Note: Higher Crystal rank increases evolution success rate]

[and may unlock hidden evolution branches unavailable at lower ranks.]

--------------------------------------------------------------

Qalish stared at the panel.

F Rank. Ten percent.

Dual-element evolution is already one of the hardest paths.

Of course ten percent isn't enough to hold it.

I need something to compensate.

He closed his eyes.

Wait.

The quest.

I never claimed the reward.

His eyes snapped open.

He pulled up the quest panel immediately.

--------------------------------------------------------

[Quest Complete: First Evolution Path Initiated]

[Claim Reward?]

 Rewards:

+100 Monster Points

Efficiency Boost Stone — Evolution success rate +50% (single use)

Hidden Reward — ??? (Rare Gift Box)

--------------------------------------------------------

There it is.

 He claimed immediately.

 [+100 MP received]

[MP: 174 → 274]

 [Efficiency Boost Stone received]

[Effect: Evolution success rate +50% — single use]

 [Rare Gift Box received]

[Stored in inventory]

Qalish glanced at the Gift Box notification.

 Then at Aiden and Ailyn.

Not now.

Open that later. Alone.

He moved on.

---

"Aiden."

 "Yeah?"

"Don't react to what you're about to see."

 Aiden blinked. "...Okay?"

 Qalish turned back to Foxy.

She was already sitting upright again.

 Ready.

He activated the Efficiency Boost Stone through the system.

A faint warmth spread through his Crystal — different from Flame Heal. More structural. Like something reinforcing the connection between him and Foxy at a fundamental level.

[Efficiency Boost Stone activated]

[Evolution success rate: 10% → 60%]

[Initiating second attempt...]

[Cost: 100 MP]

This time—

 The light didn't flicker.

 It held.

 Steady. Growing. Certain.

Foxy's outline blurred completely — her form dissolving into pure luminescence — gold and deep shadow intertwining around her Crystal like two rivers meeting for the first time.

The Crystal itself began to change.

 Qalish watched it.

The grey — the dull, flat grey of an F Rank — began to shift.

 Slowly.

Like something being burned away from the inside.

 Beneath it—

 Blue.

 E Rank blue.

It spread from the center outward — threading through the Crystal's surface like veins of light — until the grey was gone entirely.

The magic circle behind Qalish — the one that had always been simple, almost plain — responded.

 It expanded.

The runes along its edge rewrote themselves.

 And the color—

 Changed.

 From grey to blue.

 F Rank to E Rank.

 Right in front of them.

Aiden made a sound that wasn't quite a word.

Ailyn's lips parted slightly. Just slightly.

Then — at the center of the light—

Foxy began to take shape again.

 Larger than before.

Her platinum white fur remained — but deeper now, richer, with a faint iridescent quality that shifted between gold and shadow depending on the angle.

Her eyes — still blue — but the shadow within them had solidified. No longer faint. No longer minor.

 Equal now.

 Fire and dark, perfectly balanced.

 And her tail—

 Qalish's eyes moved there instinctively.

 One tail had become two.

Both swaying slowly. Naturally. Like they had always been there.

---

[— Dark Regeneration (E Skill)]

[Select 1 to proceed]

Evolution Aura: 0% (reset)

--------------------------------------------------------

Qalish stared at the pending selection panel.

One slot remaining.

Two options.

He'd decide later. Somewhere quieter.

He closed the panel.

 And looked at Foxy.

 She looked back at him.

Both tails swayed once — in sync.

Two tails.

If she keeps evolving...

Three. Four. Five.

Eventually...

Nine.

He almost laughed.

Nine tails.

I'm going to have a nine-tailed fox.

Foxy... you might become something out of legend.

Kurama would be jealous.

Foxy tilted her head.

 Both tails swayed again.

He looked away before she could tell he was flustered.

---

Silence settled over the room.

Then Aiden leaned back — slowly — and let out a long breath.

 "...Two tries," he said.

 "Yes," Qalish replied.

 "She evolved in two tries."

 "Yes."

 Aiden stared at the ceiling.

"Do you know how many times my cousin tried to evolve his B Rank Monster?" He held up four fingers. "Four times. Four. And he had professional support from a registered evolution specialist."

 He looked at Foxy.

 Foxy looked back at him.

"She just... did it in two."

Ailyn hadn't moved from her chair.

Her eyes were on Foxy — studying. Quiet. The expression of someone recalculating something they thought they already understood.

"Two attempts is exceptional," she said softly. "Even with specialist support, dual-element evolutions typically require three to five attempts minimum." She paused. "Sometimes more."

 "Talent," Qalish said simply.

 Ailyn looked at him.

 Said nothing.

But her eyes said she wasn't entirely satisfied with that answer.

--------------------------------------------------------

Aiden sat up straight.

"Okay." He pointed at Qalish. "I want that."

 "Want what."

"What you just did." He crossed his arms. "Rex. I want to evolve Rex."

 Qalish looked at him.

"That's what Monster Tamers are for."

"I know." Aiden reached into his coat and pulled out his Monster Watch. "Name your price. I'll pay."

 "A thousand gold," Qalish said.

 Aiden didn't even blink.

 "Done."

 Qalish paused.

That was too easy.

I underpriced.

He filed that away for later.

--------------------------------------------------------

He activated Evolution Path.

 attack and defense stance

Skills Gained: Iron Siege Claw, Battle Hardened

Requirement: Refined Metal Core + 100% EA + 200 MP

--------------------------------------------------------

Qalish looked up.

"Rex has three evolution paths," he said. "First — full offense. Higher raw power, faster strikes. Second — full defense. Passive damage reduction, immovable in a fight." He paused. "Third — balanced. Can switch between attack and defense stance depending on the situation."

 Aiden listened carefully.

 "Which one suits him?"

Qalish looked at him for a moment.

He's a frontliner. He charges. He holds ground.

But more than that — he protects.

That's who Voss Aiden is.

"Third path," Qalish said. "It fits the way you fight."

Aiden was quiet for a moment.

 Then nodded once.

 "Then that's the one."

"There's more you need to know," Qalish said.

 Aiden looked at him.

"Evolution at A Rank requires a higher tier material," Qalish said. "A Refined Metal Core — A Rank grade."

Aiden raised an eyebrow. "Never heard of it."

"Neither have I, until recently," Qalish admitted. "But it exists. You'll need to find one — through hunting or purchasing. Shouldn't be hard for you to track down."

 Aiden shrugged.

"I'll have someone look into it."

He didn't even hesitate.

Of course he didn't.

"Rex also needs to hunt and defeat enough monsters before the evolution can proceed," Qalish added. "Think of it as preparation — the more he fights, the more ready he'll be."

"How will I know when he's ready?"

"Rex will tell you," Qalish said simply. "Monsters know when they're close. You'll feel it through the contract."

 Aiden nodded slowly.

 "...That actually makes sense."

 A beat.

"When you're ready to proceed — come find me."

 "And you'll charge me again?"

 "Of course."

 Aiden stared at him.

 Then burst out laughing.

 "...Honestly? Fair enough."

--------------------------------------------------------

Ailyn had been quiet through all of it.

Sitting at the far end of the table.

 Watching.

She hadn't said a word since her comment about dual-element evolutions.

 Qalish glanced at her.

"Your Monster as well, if you'd like," he said. "I can take a look."

 Ailyn met his eyes.

 A pause.

 "No," she said simply.

 "It won't take long—"

 "No."

Her voice was calm. Final. Not rude — just certain.

"My family handles such matters privately."

Qalish held her gaze for a moment.

Her family.

Always her family.

That's the wall she puts up every time something gets too close.

He nodded once.

"Understood."

 Ailyn looked back at Foxy.

 Her expression was unreadable.

 But her eyes—

 There was something there.

Not suspicion. Not distance.

 Something more like... careful fascination.

Like she was watching a story unfold that she hadn't read before.

And wasn't sure yet whether to trust where it was going.
