Chapter 15 - Chapter 15 - Void Ember Fox

His room was quiet.

The sealed case sat on the desk where he had left it. The storage ring was on his finger. The mystery stone was in his pocket — still warm, still unexplained.

Foxy had emerged from his Inner Space the moment he closed the bedroom door. She sat at the center of the room now, watching him with that steady amber focus she always carried before something important.

She knew.

Qalish sat on the edge of his bed and opened the system.

 First things first.

He set the stones aside in his inventory and pulled up the full status panels. One last check before he began.

 Everything was in order.

 He looked at Foxy.

 She looked back.

 Ready.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He opened the evolution panel and selected the hidden path.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[ Evolution Path Selected: Hidden ]

[ Void Ember Fox ]

[ Initiating boost calculation... ]

⚠ Boost insufficient. Evolution will fail.

⚠ Apply Crystal Boost Stones to proceed.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Qalish stared at the gap.

But this was a hidden path.

The rarest branch. The one the system had never seen documented anywhere. A triple-type evolution that shouldn't exist at this rank.

He thought about the first time he had tried to evolve Foxy — the way the light had flickered and died. Insufficient boost. Evolution failed. 100 MP gone.

He was not doing that again.

He activated the Large Crystal Boost Stone first.

[ Crystal Boost Stone (Large) activated ]

[ Crystal Boost: 10% → 60% ]

60%. Already past the requirement.

 He paused.

Then activated the first Small Stone.

[ Crystal Boost Stone (Small) activated ]

[ Crystal Boost: 60% → 80% ]

He paused again.

 Then activated the second.

[ Crystal Boost Stone (Small) activated ]

[ Crystal Boost: 80% → 100% ]

100%.

 He exhaled once.

 Overkill, maybe.

But this was a hidden path. A triple-type evolution that shouldn't exist at this rank. The kind of thing that had no margin for failure.

He wasn't taking chances with Foxy.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He activated the evolution.

The magic circle appeared behind him.

Blue — the same deep blue it had always been since Foxy's first evolution. Steady. Familiar.

But the moment the hidden path activated—

 It changed.

The blue fractured at the edges, pulled apart like cloth coming undone, and from beneath it — something darker rose. Rings of deep violet and black expanded outward from the center, slow and deliberate, shot through with veins of ember-gold that pulsed like a second heartbeat.

The runes along its edge dissolved. Reformed. Dissolved again. As if the pattern was reaching for a form that had never existed before.

Qalish had never seen a circle behave like this.

 Foxy stood before it.

 She didn't hesitate.

The small magic circle on her forehead — the mark of her contract with Qalish — began to glow. Quietly at first. Then brighter. A deep, steady gold that pulsed in time with the larger circle behind him.

And then — from that mark — her Crystal emerged.

It rose slowly from within her — the same Crystal that had been bound to her since the day he contracted her. It hung in the air between them, small and luminous, carrying everything she had become.

 The two materials came next.

The Void Crystal Shard and the Eclipsed Beast Fang rose from the inventory — drawn by something older than the system's logic — and moved toward her Crystal like they had always been meant to.

They touched it.

And the Crystal absorbed them.

Not violently. Not with force. Quietly — the way water absorbs salt — until the materials were gone and the Crystal had changed. Darker at its core. Deeper. Something inside it that hadn't been there before.

Then Foxy and her Crystal became light.

All at once. Total. Not gradual — just gone, swallowed completely into the dark luminescence of the circle. Ember-gold and void-black folded around her until nothing remained that Qalish could see.

Only the warmth through the contract told him she was still there.

 Still present. Still her.

 He didn't move. Didn't speak.

 He waited.

Then — his own Crystal pulsed.

Once. Hard. Not on the surface — deep inside. Like something shifting at the very core of the bond between him and Foxy.

He looked down at his hand.

The blue of E Rank was leaving. Slowly — like ink drawn out of water — pulling back from the edges inward until only a faint ring remained at the center.

And from beneath it — rising from the Crystal's core — green.

D Rank green. Deep and clear and certain.

It spread until the blue was gone entirely.

The magic circle behind him responded — expanding once, the runes locking into their final pattern, violet and black giving way to deep green threaded with gold. Steady. A circle that had found its form.

 [ Crystal Rank Up ]

[ E Rank → D Rank ]

Qalish closed his hand slowly. Opened it again.

 Green.

 D Rank.

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The light at the center of the circle began to pull inward.

Condensing. Tightening. The darkness and the ember-gold folding together around a shape that grew clearer with each passing second.

 Then — the light released.

And Foxy stepped out of it.

 Qalish didn't speak.

 He wasn't sure he could.

She was larger — significantly. Where she had once sat comfortably on his shoulder, she now stood at the height of his hip, four paws steady on the floor, frame built with the kind of quiet, contained power that didn't need to be announced.

Her fur was still platinum white — the same base colour she had always carried. But it wasn't the same white. It had depth now. A faint iridescence ran through each strand, shifting between the faintest gold and the deepest shadow depending on how the light fell — like the surface of still water just before dark.

 Her tails.

Three of them now. Moving slowly, independently, each one trailing wisps of void-dark energy at the tips that faded before they reached the floor — like embers that burned cold instead of hot.

Her ears were larger, sharper, edged faintly in gold. Her paws left the faintest impression of ember-dark where they touched the floor — there and gone in an instant.

 And her face —

The same Foxy. The same lines he had memorised since the day he contracted her in the monster shop.

 But her eyes.

 Her eyes had changed.

The left eye — amber gold. Deep and warm, like sunlight caught in honey. The colour of a solar eclipse at its crown.

The right eye — deep violet. Still and cold and vast, like the sky at the moment the moon swallows the sun entirely.

Two eclipses. Two moments. One in each eye.

 She looked at him.

The same look she had always given him — patient, steady, completely certain.

Just from a face that was no longer small.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The system chimed.

[ Evolution Complete ]

[ Dual Eclipse Fox → Void Ember Fox ]

[ Species Rank: E → D ]

 New skills available for selection.

Foxy gains 1 additional skill slot.

Select 1 skill to fill Slot 4.

 Unselected skill will be lost.

 ────────────────────────────────────────

 Option 1:

 › Phantom Eclipse (A Skill — Lv.1) (Active)

Merges Shadow Veil + Ember Fang into a single zero-delay strike. Phase-shifts through armor, barriers, and dodge windows entirely. On hit: Fire + Dark combined damage + Void Burn debuff (3 sec) that ignores damage resistance.

 Option 2:

 › Void Sense (A Skill — Lv.1) (Active / Passive Hybrid)

Passive: Maps all presences within 50m radius — concealed, aura-suppressed, or stealth targets included. Cannot be blocked or deceived by illusions. Shared with contracted user in real time.

Active: Foxy enters full invisibility. Cannot be detected by sight, aura or tracking skills. Holds as long as Foxy does not attack or receive damage.

 ────────────────────────────────────────

A Rank skills.

 Both of them.

Qalish read through them twice. He had expected strong — hidden path skills were always stronger than standard. But A Rank at D species level—

 He hadn't expected that.

He looked at Phantom Eclipse. The zero-delay strike. The phase-shift through defense. The Void Burn debuff that ignored resistance.

Devastating in a direct fight. The kind of skill that ended encounters before they began.

 Then Void Sense.

Detection that couldn't be blocked. Invisibility that held until broken by combat. Shared with him in real time.

He already had Shadow Bite for burst damage. He already had Celestial Echo to echo it instantly at fifty percent power.

Two attack skills. A closing move built into the kit.

What he didn't have — what no panel could give him — was information.

Knowing where every target was before the fight started.

 Knowing when someone was hiding.

Knowing when he was being watched.

 He made his choice.

The panel faded.

 The room was quiet again.

No circle. No light. No system chime.

Just his room, his desk, his window — and Foxy standing in the middle of it all like she had always been there. Like she belonged to this space exactly as she was now, not as she had been before.

Qalish looked at her for a long moment.

Three tails moved slowly behind her. The wisps of void-dark energy at their tips drifted and faded. Her mismatched eyes — amber gold and deep violet — held his gaze without blinking.

He had contracted her as an F Rank monster in a shop that most people walked past.

A dual-element mutation that no one had looked at twice.

 Worth 450 gold.

He stood up slowly from the edge of the bed.

Foxy's head tilted — slightly. That old gesture. Unchanged.

 Qalish exhaled.

Then — quietly, almost to himself —

 "You've come a long way."

 Foxy held his gaze.

 One amber eye. One violet.

 Both steady.

 Both certain.

 She always had been.
