The wall didn't just break.
It gave in.
Like something on the other side had been pushing for a long time and finally got tired of waiting.
Dust filled the air so thick it burned when I breathed. For a second, I couldn't see anything. Just shapes. Movement. Shadows shifting through the haze.
Then it stepped forward.
Slow.
Heavy.
Every step made a sound that didn't belong in a place like this. Not footsteps. Something deeper. Like the ground itself was reacting to it.
My body locked before my mind could catch up.
I couldn't move.
Couldn't speak.
Couldn't even think properly.
Because whatever was standing there
was not normal.
Not even close.
It wasn't fully wolf.
It wasn't fully human.
It looked like something caught between both and neither at the same time. Its form shifted slightly as it moved, like it couldn't settle into one shape.
And its eyes
were locked on me.
Not scanning the room.
Not watching him.
Just me.
"You feel it too," the Alpha said quietly.
I didn't answer.
I couldn't.
Because I did.
That same pressure in my chest from before
was back.
Stronger.
Heavier.
Like something inside me was waking up and didn't know how to stay quiet anymore.
The creature took another step.
Closer.
The air changed with it.
Colder.
Sharper.
Wrong.
My breath came out uneven. "What is that?"
He didn't respond immediately.
That scared me.
Because he always had answers.
Always.
But now
he was watching it.
Carefully.
Like he didn't fully understand it either.
"That shouldn't be here," he said finally.
That wasn't comforting.
At all.
The creature stopped a few feet away.
Close enough that I could see it clearly now.
Too clearly.
Its chest rose slowly, like it was breathing, but the sound didn't match the movement. Everything about it felt off, like it didn't follow the same rules as anything else.
Then it spoke.
"You're stronger."
The voice didn't come from its mouth.
It pressed into my head.
Low.
Heavy.
Clear.
I flinched.
"I didn't say anything," I whispered.
"You don't need to."
My heart started racing again.
Fast.
Too fast.
"What does that mean?" I asked, but I wasn't sure who I was asking anymore.
The Alpha stepped slightly in front of me again.
Not fully blocking me.
Just enough.
Instinct.
Protection.
Or control.
I didn't know which one anymore.
"You don't belong to them," the creature continued.
My chest tightened.
"Who?" I asked.
But it didn't answer.
It took another step.
And this time, I felt it.
Not just fear.
Not just pressure.
Something pulling.
Like something inside me was trying to move toward it.
My foot shifted forward.
Just slightly.
I didn't mean to move.
I didn't even realize I had until his hand closed around my wrist.
Firm.
Warm.
Stopping me instantly.
"Don't," he said.
His voice was lower now.
Stronger.
Not a suggestion.
A command.
I froze.
Breathing harder now.
"I didn't mean to," I said quickly.
"I know."
That made it worse.
Because if he knew
then that meant it wasn't just me losing control.
It was something else.
Something real.
The creature tilted its head slightly.
Watching me.
Studying me.
"You hear me," it said.
It wasn't a question.
I swallowed.
"Yes."
The word came out before I could stop it.
He tightened his grip slightly.
Not enough to hurt.
Enough to remind me he was there.
"Don't answer it," he said.
Too late.
The creature stepped closer again.
And this time, he moved too.
Fast.
He positioned himself fully in front of me now.
Blocking it.
Blocking me from it.
Everything about him shifted again.
The calm was still there.
But now it was layered with something darker.
Something dangerous.
"You don't get closer," he said.
The creature stopped.
For a second, I thought that was it.
That maybe it would listen.
It didn't.
It moved again.
And this time
it ignored him completely.
Like he wasn't even there.
That was when I saw it.
The moment his control slipped.
Just a little.
His shoulders tightened.
His stance changed.
Not defensive anymore.
Ready.
To attack.
"No," I said quickly, grabbing his arm.
I didn't even think about it.
I just reacted.
He stilled instantly.
Not because of the creature.
Because of me.
That scared me more than anything else.
"Don't," I repeated, quieter now.
For a second, neither of us moved.
Then the creature spoke again.
"He will break before you do."
My stomach dropped.
"What does that mean?" I asked.
"You're not bound the way he is."
Bound.
The word felt heavy.
Wrong.
I looked at him.
He didn't look at me.
His eyes stayed on the creature.
"Stop talking," he said.
His voice wasn't calm anymore.
It was sharp.
Controlled anger.
The creature didn't listen.
It never listened.
"You don't even know what she is," it continued.
That hit something.
I felt it.
The shift.
The tension tightening again.
"I know enough," he said.
"No," the creature replied. "You don't."
Silence fell.
Heavy.
Tight.
Like something was about to snap.
My chest was rising too fast now.
My thoughts were all over the place.
None of this made sense.
None of it.
"What am I?" I asked.
No one answered.
Of course.
The creature moved again.
And this time, it didn't stop.
It came straight toward me.
Fast.
Too fast.
I didn't have time to think.
Didn't have time to move.
But he did.
He intercepted it mid motion.
The impact shook the room.
Hard.
Loud.
Violent.
I stumbled back, my heart jumping into my throat as the two of them collided.
This wasn't like before.
This wasn't controlled.
This was force against force.
Power against power.
And for the first time
I saw him pushed back.
Not much.
But enough.
Enough to make my chest tighten.
The creature recovered instantly.
Moved again.
Stronger this time.
He met it head on.
Again.
No hesitation.
No holding back now.
The fight turned brutal fast.
No clean movements.
No measured strikes.
Just raw force.
The sound of it filled the room.
Cracks.
Impacts.
Heavy breathing.
I couldn't look away.
Even when I wanted to.
Even when I knew I should move.
Run.
Do something.
I stayed.
Because something in me wouldn't let me leave.
Because every time that creature got close
it felt like it was coming for me.
Not him.
Me.
"Stop!" I shouted.
Neither of them listened.
Of course they didn't.
The creature struck again.
This time catching him off guard just enough to push him back harder.
He hit the wall.
Hard.
My chest tightened sharply.
"Hey!" I yelled, taking a step forward without thinking.
The creature turned instantly.
Its attention snapped back to me.
That same pull hit again.
Stronger.
My breath caught.
My body reacted.
Again.
I stepped forward.
Not by choice.
Not fully.
Something inside me moved first.
"No," I whispered.
But it didn't stop.
The energy built again.
That pressure.
That heat.
That something inside me pushing outward.
The creature watched.
Waiting.
Like it expected it.
Like it wanted it.
"What is happening to me?" I said, my voice breaking slightly.
"You're waking up," it replied.
I shook my head. "No."
"Yes."
The word echoed in my head.
Loud.
Too loud.
I pressed my hand against my chest, trying to steady myself, trying to push it down.
It didn't work.
Nothing worked.
Behind me, I heard movement.
He was already up again.
Already coming back.
Always coming back.
The creature moved again.
But this time, it didn't attack him.
It reached for me.
Everything happened at once.
He moved.
I moved.
The creature moved.
And then
everything exploded.
The force burst out of me without warning.
Stronger than before.
Much stronger.
It hit everything.
The walls.
The floor.
Them.
Both of them.
The impact threw the creature back hard.
Threw him back too.
I staggered, barely keeping my balance as the room spun for a second.
Silence followed.
Heavy.
Shocking.
Real.
I was breathing too fast.
My hands were shaking.
"What did I just do?" I whispered.
No one answered.
Because they were both looking at me now.
Not confused.
Not surprised.
Like they had been waiting for this.
That scared me more than anything else.
The creature slowly pushed itself up.
Unhurt.
Or at least not enough.
It looked at me again.
"You see now," it said.
I shook my head immediately. "No. I don't."
"You will."
That again.
Always that.
Before I could respond, it stepped back.
Not forward.
Back.
That was new.
"You're not ready," it said.
Then it looked at him.
"For her."
Something in his expression darkened instantly.
"Stay away from her," he said.
The creature didn't respond.
It didn't need to.
Because the next second
it was gone.
Just like that.
No sound.
No warning.
Just gone.
Silence filled the room again.
But it didn't feel the same.
Not empty.
Not quiet.
Heavy.
Like something had just changed in a way that couldn't be undone.
I stood there, trying to breathe, trying to think, trying to understand what had just happened.
Nothing made sense.
Nothing felt real.
Slowly
I turned toward him.
He was already looking at me.
And this time
there was no calm in his eyes.
Only something sharp.
Something intense.
Something that made my chest tighten for a completely different reason.
"You didn't tell me," I said.
My voice came out quieter than I meant it to.
"What you are," I added.
He didn't answer immediately.
Of course he didn't.
He never did.
"Say something," I pushed.
Still nothing.
Frustration rose again.
Sharp.
Fast.
"You knew," I said. "You knew something was wrong with me and you didn't say anything."
"I was going to."
"When?" I snapped. "After something else tried to rip through a wall to get to me?"
His jaw tightened.
That small movement told me everything.
"You don't trust me," I said.
It wasn't a question.
He stepped closer.
Slow.
Careful.
"You don't trust me either," he replied.
"That's because I don't know you."
"You don't know yourself."
That hit harder than it should have.
I looked away for a second.
Just a second.
Because I didn't have an answer for that.
Because part of me knew he was right.
And I hated that.
---
End
Before either of us could say anything else
a low sound echoed again
from somewhere deeper in the building
not the creature
something else
something worse
and this time
he reacted instantly
his voice low
sharp
serious
"They found us."
