Chapter 11 - The discovery

Upon reaching the center where the obelisk was located, the three stayed at a safe distance.

San brought some research equipment, powered by pneumatic energy.

While San was doing his analysis, Naviel said, "Try to find out as much as possible. I'll stay on the perimeter to prevent any sentinel who breaks through the blockade from getting here."

Max agreed and moved closer, starting to run some tests, but without touching the material.

The personal chip began to vibrate and, upon analysis, showed the hologram of the obelisk.

Each discovery was updated on the hologram; San also listed what he found and marked it.

And together, they assembled a hologram with all the discoveries.

What they discovered was that the material absorbs all the energy it comes into contact with, and the material's resistance was average, not even close to that of steel.

But because it has a high energy absorption rate, the object doesn't suffer any damage.

San discovered something and said, "It seems the energy is being sent to a location underground; we need to create a digger to reach it."

Max said, "Let me get the materials."

Max went to the vehicle and retrieved some bags with materials for building the digger.

He began construction, using the principle of manual mechanics and his own strength. This allowed him to rotate the digger. After a few hours, he finished.

Max kept checking on the battle, and the wave of sentries had greatly diminished, with only a few sentries appearing every few minutes.

He picked up the digger, which was bigger than him, and operated it manually using brute force by turning a pedal that moved gears connected to a drill.

When he arrived at the center, San was with other Anakis analyzing the obelisk.

San saw him and ran to tell him the news.

"Max, we've made a discovery: the connection to the obelisk, where the energy is being sent, and its weakest point."

"We can cut that connection and isolate the obelisk. We have a theory that if we manage to isolate the obelisk, the energy could be used for at least a few kilometers."

Max's eyes lit up. This would be a step towards getting out of here.

Max used the excavator to find the source of the energy.

As he began pedaling and digging a large hole in the ground, which extended for several meters until it hit something, he looked and saw an iron wall.

He went forward and, with his bare hand,s began to tear through the metal. After going through a few centimeters, he entered and saw a dark corridor.

Max felt a hint of rust in the air, as if the metal were rusting.

He couldn't see anything. He activated the chip to have an ambient vision, which began to reflect in his pupils.

But he began to see where the energy was with his vision and found a source far away. He returned and told the Anaki to prepare themselves. Naviel, who was waiting, nodded and commanded the men.

Max descended after preparing himself and looked at the power source he had seen before.

He began walking in that direction; the corridor seemed empty. Nothing but iron walls. And some shiny moss on the walls, which seemed to be rusting the iron.

When he was more than a hundred meters away, he saw a room. Upon entering, he found an old computer system; it looked quite dusty.

The air was very dusty; it would be difficult for an ordinary person to breathe here, and the oxygen level was very low.

When he arrived, he tried to analyze it and saw that there was nothing useful; he used the chip to extract the stored data.

What appeared was a knowledge and technical system for using the obelisks to store a large amount of energy.

According to the civilization's records, they found this island deserted.

When they landed on this land, they found the obelisks, found the way they absorbed energy interesting, and began to study and try to use them to create a large energy storage system.

They tried to advance in other areas, but only the storage system made some progress.

Some parts of the records were missing; it seems something went wrong, and the storage system activated the obelisks to their maximum capacity, absorbing all the energy without stopping, and the defense of the energy storage systems went out of their control.

When they realized it, it was too late, and none of their weapons worked. They lost the battle and had no choice but to isolate themselves in certain parts of the island.

This weighed heavily on Max's mind, as any mistake could be the end for some civilizations.

Max left the room and continued down the corridor, seeing some rooms, but finding nothing of value.

When he reached the end of the corridor, he saw a huge room with two different sentinels at the door; they were spherical, three meters tall, and appeared to be deactivated.

Max looked and saw that they were connected to the energy storage; he saw through the wall a colossal amount of energy, comparable to his mini artificial sun.
