Chapter 12 - The exit

Max was looking at the two sentinels and thinking about retreating for now.

When the energy in the room began to fluctuate, the sentinels started to spin and float.

When Max realized a laser beam had been fired in his direction, he managed to narrowly dodge it.

What followed was that one of the sentinels appeared in front of him and hit him like a steel ball, giving him no time to react. He was sent flying, hitting the wall.

When Max emerged from the rubble, and a laser beam hit him squarely, he felt his skin burning; it was difficult to move forward, as the beam hit him in front of him, preventing him from advancing.

Max activated all his thrusters; he managed to quickly get out of the laser's path and reached the sentinel before it could react. He punched with all his might.

The sentinel was sent flying, leaving a large hole in it, and several cracks spread. The wall sank several meters in the impact.

As Max breathed a sigh of relief, the last sentry appeared behind him, and before he could react, he was struck by an electric current that illuminated the entire area; the metal floor began to melt.

Max felt immense pain; his muscles began to smoke. By focusing on his heart, his energy center, he managed to mitigate the damage.

His heart began to absorb energy like never before, but it started to feel overwhelmed, yet it seemed endless, as if the sentry had limitless energy.

Max focused all his energy and launched it against the sentry, creating an image of two electric bolts colliding, thus gaining a moment to breathe.

He grabbed his sword and, with a swing, struck the sentry, which sank into the ground, leaving a cut that went all the way to its core.

It seemed to be trying to escape, but it was weak, so with a thrust, Max finished it off.

The ground was completely broken, and Max lay there panting, his skin burned all over his body, bits of flesh exposed.

After a few minutes, he got up, recovering only slightly; with his energy level, he has a very fast recovery rate.

He went to the rubble where the sentinels were and confirmed they were deactivated. He activated his chip and began analyzing and saving data about these sentinels.

When he finished, he went to the power source.

He saw that the energy storage source was a huge reservoir.

It looked like a huge, very smooth, technological-looking metallic ring.

It had circular layers, rails, or tracks shining around the structure.

In the center or on the edges, there were cold blue, white, or purple lights pulsing.

The surface gave the feeling of something very dense, precise, and powerful.

The magnetic fields could slightly distort the surrounding air.

When Max saw this structure, he knew that the energy stored in this construction was enormous.

He went to the panel, deactivated the connection to the obelisk, and downloaded all the data from that structure.

When he confirmed that all notions were deactivated, he returned.

The Anaki were in battle when suddenly all the sentinels stopped at the same time, and the obelisk returned to its original mode, where it absorbed little energy.

Naviel gathered the Anaki and waited for Max's arrival.

Heavy footsteps began to echo in the hole, and Max appeared, and the Anaki gathered, full of joy.

Naviel went to Max and gave him a strong hug and said, "Ah, my great friend, you did it, you saved us from this abandoned land."

When Max groaned in pain, Naviel released him and said, "But you are all worn out like a true warrior."

Max shook his head and said, "I'm not used to fighting; I prefer my research."

Naviel laughed and shook his head, saying, "Our ship was hidden, let's take it down and get out of here."

Max asked if he wanted the power source, but Naviel refused, saying he wasn't prepared to use it.

Everyone began clearing the area. Max contacted his ship and sent some robots down to help.

The pearls in orbit released several robots that, upon descending, were not stopped.

When they arrived, they began to help the Anaki; their ship was well buried.

Meanwhile, Max sent his old ship out of the pearl and down.

Upon arrival, he began digging to remove the structure storing energy.

The area began to be excavated rapidly by the robots.

Max watched all this while analyzing the obelisk, but he had no intention of taking it, as it wasn't safe.

After a few days, Max had fully recovered. The power source was unearthed and taken to the ship.

On that date, the repairs to the Anaki ship were finalized. It was a colonization ship, half a kilometer long, with an oval shape lying on the ground, and its exterior resembled reptile scales. It seems that most of the damage was recovered.

Naviel came to greet and say goodbye. As he approached Max, he had a box in his hands.

When he arrived, he opened it and inside was.

When he arrived, he opened it, and there was a storage disk containing various technologies that had been previously agreed upon.

He also explained that this was information his race possessed about other beings, limited to the level he was authorized to know.

Naviel said: "Max, my friend, you will be a friend of my people; you will give the location of where I am going and, when you wish to visit my colony, you will be received as an honored guest.Farewelll."

The shaking of hands felt like a long farewell between comrades-in-arms.

Max boarded his ship and left that place, the ship entering its great pearl, which was still in orbit.

The place showed no changes, but Max felt different.

He went to the command room and began the departure process; it was time to continue his search.
