Chapter 10 - The hunters and the gltich

The three black UAZs screeched to a halt, surrounding the building where Michael and John were positioned. Unlike regular players, these "Hunter Bots" moved with synchronized, robotic efficiency. They wore jet-black tactical gear, and their eyes glowed with a cold, red light.

"They aren't players, Michael!" John yelled over the roaring wind. "My bullets... they're barely doing any damage!"

John fired a full magazine into the first Hunter, but the Hunter didn't flinch. It just kept advancing, its movements jittery and unnatural. The system had buffed their health and armor to impossible levels. Their mission was simple: Delete the anomaly.

Michael realized that standard tactics wouldn't work. He reached into his digital interface, trying to tap into the very code that was trying to erase him. He felt a searing heat in his mind, and suddenly, his HUD turned bright red.

Michael's movements suddenly doubled in speed. To John, he looked like a blur of pixels. Michael leaped from the second-story window, landing in the middle of the Hunter squad. He didn't just use his gun; he used the environment. He grabbed a fragment of a glitched wall and swung it like a blade, slicing through the digital armor of the Hunters.

It was a battle of pure code. Michael was fighting fire with fire.

"Cover me, John!" Michael signaled by flashing his muzzle.

John understood. He started lobbing grenades and suppressive fire, not to kill, but to distract. This allowed Michael to systematically dismantle the Hunters. With every Hunter he deleted, Michael felt himself getting stronger, absorbing fragments of their data.

As the last Hunter collapsed into a pile of corrupted pixels, the sky turned a deep, blood-red. A massive voice boomed from the heavens, echoing across the entire map.

"ANOMALY DETECTED. PREPARING FULL SERVER RESET."

"They're going to kill the whole server just to get to you!" John shouted, looking at the countdown timer that had appeared in the sky. "We have to win this match NOW, before the clock hits zero!"
