Chapter 179 - A Different Sky

I stood straight, surprised to see him. I had been so self-absorbed that I hadn't even sensed him approaching.

Slin looked so concerned and almost uncertain standing there, as if he was afraid I might send him away.

"It's fine," I said quietly.

He stepped closer, stopping a few paces from where I leaned against the pillar. His eyes swept over my face, and I saw the question forming before he even opened his mouth.

"Are you alright?"

I wanted to laugh and cry, but I wasn't sure which would come out if I tried, so I did neither.

"I am just tired… again," I admitted.

The words felt inadequate for the weight pressing down on my chest, but they were the only ones I could manage.

I was quite tired of this cycle.

Was there a way to push past all that had happened?

Slin's face softened. He oddly didn't push, but just stood there.

After a few seconds of silence, he spoke up.

"Do you want to talk about it?"

I opened my mouth, then closed it again.
