Chapter 4 - Preparation

Isaac carries the now dead fish as he walks towards the fire, still occasionally looking around for a sharp rock or something similar, but his search doesn't bear fruit.

He examines the fish, it's about a foot in length and about an inch and a half in thickness. The fish also has a couple of dozen small sharp teeth, the same ones that were biting at Isaac's hand during the fight.

Isaac looks at the teeth and thinks, 'Maybe the teeth could be good instead of a stone. I would have to use a lot of them, but I could put them on a stick and use it as a club, or maybe I could use one to cut it open.'

Following that thought, he walked back towards the water and placed the fish on the ground before washing his bloodied hand in the water and then wrapping his tie around his hand tightly to stop the bleeding.

He then grabs the fish's mouth and attempts to pull a few teeth out. After a few questionable attempts, he gets a slightly longer tooth out of the fish's mouth. It still has some of Isaac's blood and some of its own blood, so he cleans it in the water before attempting to cut it open.

He places the fish in the water so the blood doesn't get on any more clothes. He then cuts from behind the gills and down to the anus of the fish. It takes a few tries, but he makes it to the spine of the fish, which he then cleans and removes the blood line, as well as the guts.

This wasn't his first time cutting a fish open, as he would go fishing with his dad every summer, with James, and James's dad. So while it was harder due to not having the proper tools, it still didn't look bad.

After giving the fish a deep clean as well as removing as many scales as possible, he returned to the fire and threw a few dry branches in it. He then grabs a wet stick and sticks the fish through it from the mouth to the tail.

He puts the fish over the fire by placing the stick on the rocks that surround the fire. Isaac looks at the fire burning for a while, silently questioning the past day.

'This has been one crazy day, I thought it was just going to be a normal day, but next thing I know, I'm thrown here. If I knew that was going to be chosen, I would have brought some knives, or maybe some food.'

Isaac lets out a small laugh at that last part. The fish starts to brown, and Isaac spins it so that it gets cooked on all sides. Faint sizzling can be heard from the fish that seems to overpower the constant wind in the forest, and a nice smell hits Isaac's nose.

Isaac looks around, hoping that the smell doesn't attract any predators, but luck seems to be on his side again as nothing shows up, but it still doesn't get rid of the feeling of being watched, which has been following him ever since he found the squirrels, but considering that nothing has happened yet then he should just keep an eye out.

Isaac takes the fish off the fire and places it on a rock, and by hand, he removes as many bones as possible, separating them into two groups, one group that would be good for tools and another that can be used to try to make stock.

Once he has removed the bones, he finally eats the fish. It took a lot of restraint not to eat it straight away, but it was worth it. To taste his first victory in the most literal sense, while the taste wasn't the best, it was most likely better than those berries he saw earlier.

As the night drew on, the moon passed from horizon to horizon, and the sun started to peak beyond the trees. Seeing the sun rise reminded Isaac that he hadn't slept since before coming to this world.

Isaac wasn't sure what type of predators lived in this forest, and that was his main reason for not sleeping, but running off fumes wasn't going to last much longer, so once the sun peaked higher, Isaac looked around for large sticks and built a Small hut that leaned against a tree.

Isaac built it a few minutes away from his fire, so if any animals that follow any lingering smells were not close to him, he also spread some leftover fish meat around the forest to distract any animals from finding him.

And Isaac sat in his closed off hut and fell asleep. It was by no means comfortable, but it was probably the best sleep he was going to get in this forest. The sounds of the forest helped him fall asleep, even though he was still on edge.

Isaac woke up, and he was in his school. It was empty, and the sky was orange as the sun was setting. Isaac stood up from his seat and started to walk out of his classroom. Down the hall, he saw someone tall with brown hair, wearing the same clothes as him.

Isaac recognised this person as James, even though James wasn't facing Isaac, he could easily tell due to his thin build and the book that he held, as the book was the same book that sat in Isaac's bag right now.

Isaac looked into his school bag and pulled out the book, and at the same moment, seeing his tie wrapped around his hand, he unwrapped the tie to see that the wounds on his hands had turned a purplish blue.

Isaac spoke full of worry, "James, can you get the nurse or something? My hand is freaking me out."

Looking at James, he turned around, and his eyes were missing with black pus leaking out of them as James reached towards his face and started clawing at his face before letting out a banshee type scream, and then he started running towards Isaac.

From pure shock, Isaac falls back as James quickly gets closer to him, while at the same time, the purple marks start to spread across Isaac's body. And then James was upon him, about to strike him down.

When Isaac heard his own voice speak

"New trait acquired Minor Curse."

The world seems to freeze around him. James is only a few inches away from him, with black pus from his eyes pouring onto Isaac, but he is being stopped in his tracks. Right as Isaac tries to move, James lets out another scream, even in his state of stasis.

A loud bang could be heard as the world shifts and moves, changing to be black, as Isaac feels grass in his hands and cold bark against his back. A throbbing pain hits Isaac's head as blood drips down from it.

Isaac looks around, trying to discern if any of this is real, but that all comes to a stop as the same scream he heard from James can be heard right outside his small hut. Looking outside through the cracks of the sticks, Isaac sees a human shaped creature screaming while looking at the lake.
