Chapter 3 - First Night

As Isaac looks at the sunset, it finally sets, the night sky of this unknown world, an uncharted sky that has never been polluted, and won't be for thousands of years.

Isaac walks downstream before arriving at a large lake, far larger than the clearing that Isaac first appeared in. The shore on the opposite side is hard to see under the night sky, the sound of the wind is the only thing that can be heard for miles.

Isaac sits down at the shore of the lake, and looks at the water and the stars that reflect off its surface, and he sits there for a while, taking a break for the day of walking before opening his bag and bringing out everything he had in it.

Looking at the items laying across the grass, Isaac mentally goes over everything he has.

'Okay, so I have my water bottle, which is about half full, I have 4 textbooks and the beginner magic theory textbook, as well as some pencils and pens.'

Isaac looks at his phone, which now reads at 15% battery, and then turns it off to save its battery. He then turns his gaze to his OP, which has been non functioning since coming here.

'Talk about a waste of money, you would think for its price that I would work over here as well, but I guess normally you wouldn't need it if you are over here, considering you have a more advanced system. But who cares what is really needed is that battery it has.'

Isaac looks around for a small rock and then takes off his OP from his wrist before smashing it with the rock to break it apart, and then he takes the battery and a piece of wire from the bundle of scraps, and puts the rest in a pocket of his bag in case.

Isaac stands up and puts everything back in his bag and then begins collecting sticks, mainly looking for dry sticks, but most sticks in the forest near the lake are damp, but that won't make that big off a difference as he could always use the fire to dry them out and could use one of his text books as fuel in the mean time.

He finds a patch of dry grass under a canopy of trees, only a few meters away from the lake. He first makes a ring of rocks to stop the fire from spreading out of control, and then he rips up his English textbook and makes a small mound of paper using around half of the book. Then he connects the wire to both ends of the battery, which makes the wire go extremely hot, and it then sets the paper on fire. (Do not do at home)

He places the damp sticks at the edge of the fire to slowly dry as he places a few pieces of paper in the fire to keep it stoked. After an hour, he can keep the fire going without constant maintenance, and he starts to make some charcoal to begin his next part of his plan, which is to get some drinkable water.

Isaac's stomach growled as it had been at least 8 hours since he last ate. He found a stick, pulled a long piece of string off his clothes, secured it to the stick, found a worm on the ground, wrapped the string around it, and then placed it in the water.

He knew that it was unlikely that he would get a fish, but it was better than doing nothing. He then placed the stick in the ground and placed a rock on it to stop it from falling over, and hoped it would make a sound in case a fish caught onto it.

The night was still relatively young as it was only night for around 3 hours. Isaac always looked over his shoulder and was always on edge, as most people would be if they were in an unknown Forrest, so to quell his nerves, he was going to make some tools to help him.

His priority was a knife or at least something sharp enough to cut, so a rock with a sharp edge would do. Luckily for Isaac, he was at a lake surrounded by rocks. Turns out there are a lot of rocks, but not a lot of sharp rocks that would be good at cutting.

After around half an hour of searching, Isaac's rock hunting is cut short when a repeated loud thud is heard from over at his fire. Isaac runs over to see the rock that was on his makeshift fishing rod being thrown about by something pulling at the rod.

Isaac runs and grabs the rod and starts pulling slowly to lure the thing, pulling the rod closer. He slowly nudges the rock that was holding the rod closer to the shore. As Isaac lays eyes on a fish no smaller than a foot long, he sees the worm that was on the string is now bitten in half, and it is only hanging on by the knot of its flesh.

As the fish comes close enough to the edge of the shore, Isaac picks up the rock and brings it down on the fish, but the fish seems to be expecting this and moves away, and the rock only barely scratches the tail of the fish.

Unlike normal fish, this one does not run away, it stays and tries to challenge Isaac, and Isaac gladly accepts being driven with hunger and lack of sleep. He repeatedly picks up the rock and tries to kill it in one fell swoop.

Isaac is only able to get small scratches on the fish's body, while the fish shows its teeth and bites at him every time he misses, and soon, a plethora of blood is falling from Isaac's hand while the fish has only got a few open wounds.

Isaac looks at the fish and speaks, "You're one tough fish, but I refuse to die like this. If I can't even beat a single fish, then I wasn't suited for this life, but I have something you don't, and that is intelligence."

Right as Isaac finishes speaking, he puts his most bloodied hand into the water, which the fish runs over to feast on the blood and flesh of the hand, which is when Isaac's plan succeeds as he brings down the rock, which was in his other hand, down onto the now distracted fish and hits it in the head a few times.

Once he finds it safe, he grabs the fish with the hand that is in the water and brings it out of the water. Isaac looks down at the now dead fish with a feeling of accomplishment, as this is the first fight he has fought in this world.
