"We need to get that bullet out," Imani said, her voice cutting through the noise around us. "It is poisoned and it is sitting close to his lung. His system will shut down if it stays in him and he cannot heal while the silver is in his blood."
Tears blurred my vision as I pressed my hands against his chest, his blood coating my palms. She handed me a small bottle of liquid and told me to pour it directly over the wound. I did it without thinking, my hands shaking badly.
"I have no choice but to go in without being able to see properly," she said.
I nodded and helped her prepare the wound as best I could. Phoenix's eyes were going unfocused and his breathing was coming in short uneven pulls that were getting worse with each one.
