Chapter 88 - Chapter 88. A Slip of the Tongue

"Revisiting an old place has a unique flavor," Leticia muttered, standing at the familiar street corner, looking at her fingertips covered by white gauze.

Hearing her soliloquy, Melanie, who was checking the surroundings for surveillance equipment, indicated that she shouldn't make it sound so refined.

They had only been here once, and that was to beat people up. What was there to reminisce about?

Reminiscing about the satisfying feel of punching those three little darlings?

"No surveillance equipment." After finishing the check, Melanie nodded toward Leticia.

She wanted others to know why Kira desired that book so much, but Leticia strongly requested that the two of them should know first, and then they would discuss whether or not to tell others.

In Leticia's words, "Some things are better left unknown than known."

Melanie also agreed with this statement; if truly irrelevant people found out certain things, it would be quite troublesome.

"The time is almost here. I hope Kira doesn't stand me up." Leticia pulled out her phone, glanced at the time, and said calmly.

"Are you really not nervous?"

"Do I look nervous?" Leticia countered.

Melanie thought for a moment, then nodded, "You should be very nervous."

Judging from snippets of her daily life, Leticia was extremely afraid of Kira discovering her identity. Now that she was about to interact with Kira at such close range, Melanie believed Leticia absolutely shouldn't appear as calm as she currently did.

"Hmph, since you know, stop bothering me, alright?" Leticia took a deep breath. She was indeed a little nervous, but not enough to affect the plan.

Buzz... Accompanied by the vibration of her phone, a message from Luna was delivered to Leticia's phone.

Glancing at the message, Leticia took another deep breath. "Get ready, Kira is coming."

"Mhm." Melanie picked up the black safe placed beside her. The book that Kira desperately wanted was inside.

Whoosh... A cold gust of wind blew past, and the bright moon in the sky was obscured by dark clouds that appeared out of nowhere.

The dim yellow streetlights began to flicker continuously, seemingly announcing someone's arrival.

In the flickering light, the petite girl slowly walked over from the other side of the road.

The girl wore a black princess dress and a small, Seven-Colored Crown on her head. Beneath the hem of the skirt were calves encased in black stockings and a pair of exquisite black boots.

The girl was beautiful, so beautiful that it seemed the bright moon in the sky dimmed its light for her sake.

"Sister Bai, we are so familiar with each other, do we still need to meet in such a distant manner?" Kira asked with a smile, looking at the person in black.

This person was her dear Sister Bai; she was one hundred percent certain.

As for the person in white next to Sister Bai, she didn't know who that was.

Perhaps it was Quinn, whom Leticia mentioned, perhaps it was Melanie's friend, or perhaps it was an older sister with an ambiguous relationship with Melanie.

"Cough, cough." Melanie coughed twice, not answering Kira.

She was just decoration, she was just decoration, Melanie constantly told herself inwardly.

As long as she didn't admit it, even if Kira already knew who she was, she could still deny it.

"Is Sister Bai Ling not planning to speak?" Kira tilted her head. "In that case, the person who wants to trade with me is actually you, the unknown miss?"

"That's right." A neutral-sounding voice came from Leticia's mouth; she dared not use her original voice.

"Then, where is the item I want?" Kira nodded, asking about the book. "You have to let me know that I didn't come all this way for nothing."

Leticia nudged Melanie with her elbow; this was their agreed-upon secret signal.

Melanie understood immediately. She opened the safe and took out the book.

Given Kira's strength, she could naturally distinguish the authenticity of the book.

"Mhm, it is indeed what I want." Kira blinked, her attitude turning serious. "So, what question do you want to ask me?"

"It's simple: why do you want this book?" Leticia asked the question she was most concerned about.

Why was Kira so concerned about this book that she was even willing to travel to the Human World to conduct the transaction herself?

This was truly strange.

"This, I might not be able to answer." Kira's expression was conflicted. It was clear she really wanted the book but didn't want others to know the reason.

"Then, what is this book related to?" Leticia posed another question.

"I cannot say." But Kira's attitude was firm; she would not tell others the reason.

Leticia turned her head to look at Melanie, seeing the same confusion in her eyes as she felt herself.

What secret was hidden inside this book?

"Are you the only one who wants this book?" Leticia changed the question.

This time, Kira answered, "No."

"Who else?"

"The Elf Race, the Beastman Race—almost all other races have people who know the importance of this book. No, the importance of this set of books." Kira's answer plunged Leticia into thought.

So, this wasn't just an issue concerning the Demon Race and the Human Race, but the entire world?

And, "A set?"

"One book from this set is stored in the Secret Chamber of the Demon Race Grand Library, and the one you have is the other." Kira said.

"Impossible." Leticia subconsciously retorted. "How could I..."

"Hm?" Kira suddenly raised her head, a flash of undeniable light crossing her eyes. "Why is it impossible?"

Because I have looked through all the books in the Secret Chamber, and there is no such book there!

The Demon Race's Secret Chamber can only be entered by those possessing the Demon King bloodline, so Leticia couldn't doubt Kira's words.

If she expressed doubt, she would expose the fact that she knew what was inside the Secret Chamber, and to know what was inside the Secret Chamber, she could only have one identity.

Of the Demon King bloodlines still existing in the world today, besides Kira standing before her, the only other person was Leticia, the Current Demon King.

"Could it be that you know what's inside the Secret Chamber?" Kira approached step by step. She suddenly felt that this person in white was very familiar. "Is that right, older sister?"

The height was similar, the scent was very familiar.

She had a close relationship with Melanie, and she had deliberately avoided her at noon.

Thinking carefully, this person's identity was already obvious.

"What nonsense are you talking about?" Leticia was truly panicking. She really hadn't controlled her mouth—that sentence had just slipped out.

Halfway through speaking, she regretted it and swallowed the rest of the sentence.

But how could a smart girl like Kira ignore this detail?

Now, they were finished.
