Chapter 15 - Title: The Boy Who Carried the Wind

In a quiet village near the mountains of Japan, there lived a boy named Haruto. He was not like other boys in his school. While others loved loud games and crowded places, Haruto preferred silence—the kind that lived between falling cherry blossom petals and gentle breezes.

Every morning, Haruto would walk along a narrow path beside a river to reach his school. The river was calm, reflecting the sky like a mirror. But Haruto didn't just see water—he felt something deeper, as if the wind whispered secrets only he could understand.

Haruto lived with his grandmother in a small wooden house. His parents had moved to Tokyo for work, leaving him behind so he could grow up in a peaceful environment. His grandmother often told him,

"Nature speaks to those who listen carefully."

And Haruto listened.

One day, while returning from school, he noticed something unusual. A small paper lantern was floating down the river. It was glowing softly, even though it was still daylight. Curious, Haruto ran along the riverbank and carefully caught it.

Inside the lantern was a tiny folded note. With trembling fingers, he opened it. It read:

"Follow the wind, and you will find what your heart seeks."

Haruto didn't understand the message, but something about it made his heart beat faster. That night, he couldn't sleep. The words echoed in his mind.

The next morning, instead of going to school, Haruto decided to follow the wind.

He walked beyond his usual path, into the deeper forest where tall bamboo trees swayed and sunlight barely touched the ground. The wind seemed stronger there, guiding him. Leaves rustled like voices calling his name.

After hours of walking, he reached a hidden shrine. It was old, covered in moss, and surrounded by silence. At the center stood a stone statue of a fox—an Inari spirit, as his grandmother had once told him.

As Haruto stepped closer, the wind suddenly stopped.

Everything became still.

Then, a soft voice spoke,

"You have listened."

Haruto looked around, but no one was there.

"Who… who are you?" he asked nervously.

"I am the spirit of the wind," the voice replied. "Few can hear me. Fewer choose to follow."

Haruto's fear slowly turned into wonder. "Why did you call me here?"

The wind gently moved again, brushing against his face like a warm hand.

"Because your heart is searching," it said. "You feel alone, don't you?"

Haruto lowered his eyes. He missed his parents. He missed laughter at home. Even though his grandmother loved him, there was an emptiness he couldn't explain.

"I… I do," he whispered.

The wind circled around him, lifting fallen leaves into the air.

"Then carry me," the voice said. "Wherever you go, I will remind you—you are never truly alone."

Suddenly, the paper lantern in Haruto's hand began to glow again. It rose gently into the air and then disappeared into the sky.

From that day on, Haruto felt different.

He still walked the same path, still lived in the same house, but something had changed inside him. Whenever he felt lonely, the wind would gently pass by, as if speaking to him again.

Years later, Haruto grew up and moved to Tokyo. Life became busy, loud, and crowded—just like he had once avoided. But even in the middle of the city noise, whenever the wind brushed past him, he would smile.

Because he knew—

He was never alone.
