Chapter 17 - Title: The Boy Who Waited at Platform 7

In a small town in Japan, there was an old railway station. It wasn't very busy, and most trains passed without stopping. But every evening, at exactly 5:30 PM, a boy named Riku would sit on a bench at Platform 7.

No one knew why.

Riku was about sixteen, with calm eyes and a quiet face. He carried a small notebook with him, writing something every day while waiting for the same train.

The train came, stopped for a minute, and left.

And Riku stayed.

One day, a station worker named Mr. Sato noticed him.

"You come here every day," he said kindly. "Are you waiting for someone?"

Riku looked up for a moment, then nodded.

"Yes."

"Who?" Mr. Sato asked.

Riku hesitated, then replied softly, "My best friend."

Mr. Sato smiled. "Then I hope they come soon."

Riku didn't respond. He just looked at the empty tracks.

Years ago, Riku had a friend named Daichi. They were inseparable—studying together, playing together, dreaming about traveling across Japan one day.

One afternoon, Daichi told Riku,

"My family is moving to another city. I'll be leaving tomorrow."

Riku was shocked. "So soon?"

Daichi nodded. "But listen… I'll come back. I promise. I'll meet you at Platform 7, at 5:30 PM. Don't forget."

Riku smiled for the first time that day. "I won't."

The next day, Daichi left.

And Riku began waiting.

At first, he waited with excitement. Days turned into weeks. Weeks turned into months.

But Daichi never came.

Still, Riku didn't stop.

Every day, he wrote in his notebook—about school, about life, about how much he missed his friend. It was like he was talking to Daichi through those pages.

One rainy evening, as thunder echoed in the sky, Mr. Sato walked up to Riku again.

"You're still waiting?" he asked gently.

Riku nodded.

Mr. Sato sat beside him and sighed.

"Sometimes… people can't keep their promises," he said carefully.

Riku looked down at his notebook.

"I know," he whispered. "But… what if he tries to come one day, and I'm not here?"

Mr. Sato didn't have an answer.

The train arrived, just like every day.

But this time, something was different.

As the doors opened, a young man stepped out. He looked around nervously, his eyes searching the platform.

Riku stood up slowly.

Their eyes met.

"Daichi…?" Riku said, his voice trembling.

The young man smiled, tears forming in his eyes.

"I'm sorry I'm late."

Riku dropped his notebook and ran toward him.

"You took too long," he said, trying to smile through tears.

Daichi laughed softly. "Yeah… but you waited."

They stood there, under the dim station lights, like no time had passed.

That day, Riku closed his notebook for the last time.

Because the story he had been writing for years—

Finally had its ending.

And it was worth the wait. 🚆💛
