"Are you seriously not happy?" Levi asked me for what had to be the millionth fucking time. His voice had that strained mix of frustration and disbelief, like he couldn't possibly understand why I wasn't throwing confetti after the disaster he'd dragged me into.
Happy? What the hell was there to be happy about? He'd invited chaos into our lives for the sake of some self-important performance. I wasn't sure who the audience was supposed to be—me? His ego? The gods?
"My mom likes to take advantage of people," I snapped, rolling my eyes. "Congratulations on becoming a leech attraction. I really thought you wouldn't fall for it."
His face fell a little, which almost made me feel bad—almost.
"Has no one seriously ever taken advantage of you? Fucking idiot. If you run into this kind of thing again, ignore it. Money doesn't grow on trees."
