As Tessa watched the dough continue baking inside the giant turtle shell, a satisfied smile rested on her face. The warm scent drifting through the camp made even her stomach grumble softly. She honestly had no idea if the bread would turn out perfect, but she hoped with all her heart that it would at least be edible.
"It's going to be ready in a few minutes," she assured the males surrounding the makeshift oven for what felt like the hundredth time.
None of them believed her anymore.
The beastmen kept circling the shell like hungry predators guarding prey. Every few seconds one of them would bend down and peek into the opening as though the bread would magically bake faster if they stared hard enough.
If the shell had been larger, Tessa was certain one of them would have climbed inside already.
Valen's face slowly drooped in disappointment.
"You said that earlier too," he complained while pouting dramatically. "But it's still not ready."
