Chapter 17 - Episode 17: The Side He Never Showed

The silence inside the building wasn't empty.

It was waiting.

The moment the doors locked behind them, the air shifted—heavier, sharper, charged with something unseen.

Sasmita didn't panic.

She never did.

But her senses heightened instantly, every instinct alert, every movement calculated.

"This isn't just intimidation," she said quietly.

Aarav stood beside her, his gaze already scanning the shadows.

"No," he replied.

"It's escalation."

The word settled with weight.

Before another second could pass—

Footsteps echoed.

Not distant.

Close.

Figures emerged from the dim corridors.

One.

Two.

Five.

More.

This time—

They weren't here to scare.

They were here to finish.

Sasmita's breath slowed, controlled.

Her mind moved fast.

Exits.

Distance.

Options.

None of them looked good.

"Stay behind me," Aarav said.

She almost argued.

Almost.

But something in his voice—

Stopped her.

Not authority.

Not force.

Certainty.

And for the first time—

She didn't question it.

The first man charged.

Aarav didn't wait.

He moved.

Faster than before.

Sharper.

This time—

There was no restraint.

The difference was immediate.

The calm, controlled man she had seen earlier—

Was gone.

What replaced him—

Was something far more dangerous.

His movements were precise, but no longer just defensive.

They were decisive.

Final.

Each action ended the fight before it could continue.

Each step calculated, efficient, ruthless.

Sasmita watched—

Her eyes widening slightly.

Because this—

Wasn't survival.

This was dominance.

Another attacker lunged from the side.

Aarav caught him mid-motion, his grip firm, unyielding.

The man struggled—

For a second.

Only a second.

Then—

Stillness.

Sasmita's heart skipped.

This wasn't normal.

This wasn't even close.

The room filled with chaos again, but this time—

It didn't last long.

Because Aarav didn't allow it to.

One by one—

They fell back.

Retreated.

Not defeated—

But unwilling to continue.

Because they understood now.

This wasn't a fight they could win.

Silence returned.

Heavy.

Unsettling.

Sasmita stood where she was, her gaze fixed on him.

Aarav straightened slowly, his breathing steady, his expression calm—

As if nothing had happened.

But something had.

Something she couldn't ignore anymore.

"You…" she started, her voice quieter than before.

He turned toward her.

And for a moment—

Neither of them spoke.

Because there were no simple words for what she had just seen.

"That's not normal," she said finally.

Aarav didn't respond.

Her gaze sharpened.

"That's not instinct. That's not training you get randomly."

Silence.

"Who trained you?" she pressed.

A brief pause.

"Does it matter?" he asked.

"Yes," she said immediately.

Because now—

It mattered more than anything.

Aarav looked at her for a long moment.

And then—

Instead of answering—

He said something else.

"They won't stop."

The shift caught her off guard.

"This wasn't random," he continued.

"And it won't be the last."

Sasmita's expression hardened.

"I already know that."

"Then you should be prepared."

"I am."

A faint pause.

"No," Aarav said quietly.

"You're not."

The words hit differently this time.

Not as a challenge.

But as truth.

Sasmita's jaw tightened slightly.

For the first time—

She didn't have an immediate counter.

Because deep down—

She knew.

She wasn't prepared for this.

A sound broke the moment.

Slow clapping echoed from the far end of the room.

Both of them turned.

A figure stepped forward from the shadows.

Calm.

Confident.

His eyes locked onto Sasmita first.

Then shifted to Aarav.

A faint smile formed.

"Impressive," he said.

Sasmita's expression darkened instantly.

"You."

Recognition.

So this wasn't random.

It never was.

The man's gaze lingered on Aarav now, studying him carefully.

"You're not what I expected," he said.

Aarav didn't respond.

But his posture—

Changed.

Subtle.

But clear.

Because this—

Wasn't just another opponent.

This was someone who knew what he was looking for.

"Interesting," the man continued softly.

"No records. No identity. And yet…"

A pause.

"You fight like someone who's lived in chaos."

Silence.

Sasmita's eyes flickered toward Aarav.

Because that—

Was exactly what she had been thinking.

But hearing it out loud—

Changed everything.

The man smiled faintly.

"I wonder," he said, his voice lowering slightly,

"how long you can keep pretending."

The words hung in the air.

Heavy.

Dangerous.

And for the first time—

The truth didn't feel far away anymore.
