Jax's POV
Theo and I were folding laundry together in the living room. The TV played softly in the background, and the afternoon sun came through the windows. It was one of those quiet, normal days. I folded one of Theo's shirts while he sorted the socks.
Then my phone rang.
I picked it up and saw Vael's name on the screen. My stomach dropped right away. Vael had not called in days, and the last time we talked, things sounded really bad. I answered fast.
"Vael? What's going on?"
There was a long, heavy pause. When he finally spoke, his voice sounded raw and very tired, like he had not slept for many days.
"Jax… Lirien was shot. During the exchange when they released him. He's in the hospital. Critical condition. He's… he's pregnant, Jax. With triplets. He's in a coma right now. The doctors say he needs us close, but he hasn't woken up yet."
