Vael's POV
One week.
Seven long, painful days had passed since the terrible ambush. Lirien was still fighting for his life.
The doctors had moved him out of the busy ICU two days ago. Now he rested in a quiet private room in the Korren family hospital wing. The room felt softer and calmer than the ICU. Soft lights glowed on the walls instead of bright white ones. Fresh flowers sat on the table, my mom brought new ones every morning. The air smelled clean, but underneath it was the sharp smell of medicine and machines.
Lirien lay very still in the large hospital bed. He looked so small and fragile. His silver-white hair spread across the white pillow. His skin was too pale. A big bandage covered the gunshot wound on his chest. Wires and tubes connected him to machines that beeped softly, watching his heart, his breathing, and the three tiny babies growing inside him.
Triplets.
The word still felt unreal every time I thought about it. Three little lives. Our babies.
