Chapter 42 - CHAPTER 42: A Planned Evening Under the Stars

The workday finally came to a close, but neither Yerin nor Dahye could stop thinking about the evening ahead. As soon as Dahye shut down her computer and grabbed her bag, Yerin followed her out, and they slipped into Dahye's sleek black car. The drive was quiet at first, filled with the subtle thrill of anticipation. Dahye's hand brushed against Yerin's on the center console, a small touch that made Yerin's stomach flutter.

"Excited?" Dahye asked, glancing at her from the driver's seat, a playful smile tugging at her lips.

"I… yeah," Yerin admitted softly. "I've been looking forward to this all day."

Dahye's eyes softened, and she reached out, brushing a strand of hair from Yerin's face. "Good. I wanted tonight to be just us. No distractions, no one else. Just… you and me."

The car wound through quiet streets until they arrived at a secluded clearing Dahye had discovered earlier that week. Lanterns swung gently from low tree branches, casting a warm golden glow across the grass. A small telescope stood at the edge of the clearing, and a blanket with a neatly arranged picnic basket awaited them.

Dahye parked and stepped out, gesturing for Yerin to follow. "Welcome to our little escape," she said with a grin.

Yerin couldn't help smiling, her eyes lighting up as she took in the scene. "It's perfect," she said, her voice soft with awe.

They spread themselves out on the blanket, legs brushing occasionally, and Dahye unpacked the basket: strawberries, chocolate, and sparkling water. Yerin picked up a chocolate-dipped strawberry, and their fingers touched. The contact was brief, but electric.

"You've been looking really cute today," Dahye said, leaning closer. "I think this needs to be documented."

Before Yerin could protest, Dahye lifted her camera and snapped a photo of her. "Hey!" Yerin exclaimed, cheeks warming.

"I'm just capturing the moment," Dahye said, her eyes sparkling. "You look amazing, and I want to remember it."

They laughed, the sound blending with the soft rustle of leaves. Soon, Dahye handed Yerin the camera, allowing her to snap a picture in return. The playful exchange kept the tension light, but each glance, each touch, carried a deeper undercurrent of longing.

After a while, they moved toward the telescope. Yerin leaned over to focus on the constellations, and Dahye came behind her, steadying the lens. Their shoulders brushed, and Yerin felt a shiver run down her spine.

"You're thinking about me again, aren't you?" Dahye teased, her voice low.

Yerin's cheeks flushed. "Maybe," she whispered.

"I like that," Dahye said softly, her fingers brushing Yerin's hand. "I like knowing you're thinking about me."

They lay back on the blanket afterward, shoulders touching, watching the stars. Dahye leaned in closer, snapping another photo—this time of Yerin staring up at the sky, the lanterns reflecting in her eyes. "Perfect," Dahye murmured. "Exactly how I want to remember you tonight."

Yerin laughed quietly, heart pounding, as Dahye pressed a long, deep kiss to her lips. It was tender, lingering, and full of the emotions neither had said out loud. Yerin responded instinctively, arms moving to Dahye, and for a while, nothing else existed but the warmth and closeness of that kiss.

When they finally pulled back, Dahye grinned, brushing her lips lightly across Yerin's. "I love you," she whispered, her voice soft but unwavering.

Yerin's own smile was shy but genuine. "I love you too," she replied, feeling a surge of happiness and certainty she hadn't anticipated.

They spent the rest of the evening teasing each other, sharing quiet laughter, and stealing small kisses between conversations. Dahye's camera made frequent appearances, capturing the fleeting, perfect moments of the night—the way Yerin's hair caught the lantern light, her eyes shining as she laughed, the soft brush of fingers against fingers.

When it was finally time to leave, Dahye helped Yerin to her feet, looping an arm around her waist as they walked back to the car. The night was crisp, stars scattered overhead, and their hands were intertwined, fingers laced. Every step carried the quiet thrill of closeness, the lingering warmth of their kisses, and the unspoken promise that this was just the beginning.
