Chapter 41 - CHAPTER 41: Office Tension and Hidden Sparks

The Lumina Studio office was buzzing as the morning sunlight spilled across the room, highlighting sketches, cameras, and fabrics. Dahye sat at the center, scanning the room, aware of the quiet energy each team member brought to the table. She adjusted her tablet, ready to coordinate the week-long Jeju project, but her attention kept drifting.

Across the table, Yerin quietly reviewed fabric swatches beside So Hee, seemingly focused on the upcoming work. But her eyes kept flicking to Dahye. Each small glance carried weight, a silent conversation no one else could notice. Dahye, in turn, caught the glances and returned them subtly—a slight tilt of her head, a tiny smirk only Yerin could see.

"So for the Jeju shoots," Dahye began, her voice smooth and professional, "we'll need to coordinate outdoor and indoor locations, and ensure every designer has full access to their models and photographers. Ideas?"

Yerin raised her hand slightly, careful to appear casual. "The cliffs near the coast will give Park So Hyun enough space for natural poses, and the lighting is perfect in the late morning. Outdoor shots can really highlight textures." She looked at Dahye as she spoke, letting her eyes linger just a second too long. Dahye felt a spark of something she couldn't quite define—protectiveness, warmth, and a little tension all rolled together.

Meanwhile, Jiyeon leaned toward Min Ah, whispering a quick comment about textures and angles. Min Ah giggled softly. Yu Na's gaze flicked toward them; she clenched her jaw just slightly, carefully keeping her face neutral. She was jealous—but it had to remain unspoken. Instead, she focused on adjusting her camera, her mind circling back to the subtle exchanges between Yerin and Dahye.

Dahye had to remind herself to focus on the meeting. "For the week in Jeju, each team will rotate locations to balance both indoor and outdoor shoots. Teams Three and Four will start with the beaches and cliffs in the morning, then move to boutique hotels or cafés for indoor shots in the afternoon."

Yerin nodded, scribbling notes, but she was acutely aware of Dahye's presence across the table. When Dahye passed a pen to her, their fingers brushed. It was a tiny touch, almost accidental, but both felt it. Yerin's chest warmed instantly, and Dahye forced a professional smile, though her pulse had quickened.

Later, trays of snacks and drinks arrived, delivered by Hae Rin, the young server from Nari's big restaurant. Dahye's eyes flicked toward her cautiously, aware of Hae Rin's flirtatious manner, which she had noticed before.

"Afternoon, Dahye," Hae Rin said, flashing a playful smile as she set down the trays. "Looking radiant today."

Dahye responded politely but kept her focus on unpacking the food, trying not to draw attention. Yerin, observing quietly, felt a pang of jealousy stir in her chest. She didn't like seeing Dahye's attention drawn elsewhere, even if it was minor.

Yerin let out a quiet huff, though she tried to hide it. Dahye noticed, and her chest tightened. She wanted to reassure Yerin but remained careful. Instead, she passed Yerin a small smile across the room, a silent acknowledgment only Yerin understood.

The afternoon continued with preparations for the Jeju project. Each designer reviewed outfits with their model, and photographers adjusted camera settings. Yerin guided Park So Hyun through poses, while Dahye worked behind the camera, checking angles and light. Their teamwork was seamless, yet every glance and shared nod carried a layer of unspoken emotion.

Even in the midst of professional work, tension simmered. Yerin noticed Dahye glancing at her every so often, a tiny flicker of possessiveness in her eyes. Dahye noticed Yerin's subtle reactions—the way she sometimes stiffened when another team member spoke close to Dahye. These small, hidden signals made the day electric beneath the calm professionalism.

Jiyeon and Min Ah's playful teasing appeared only briefly; a whispered joke, a shared glance that made Min Ah laugh. Yu Na noticed, her mind briefly ticked with jealousy, but she remained composed, focusing on her camera work, observing Jiyeon's movements with keen precision.

As the workday wrapped up, Hae Rin lingered nearby, still lightly flirting with Dahye as she cleared the remaining trays. "You're always so composed," Hae Rin teased. "But I can see it—you're someone who loves attention."

Dahye's eyes narrowed faintly, her jaw tightening subtly. "Thank you," she said carefully, her tone neutral. Inside, she was frustrated—protective of Yerin and unwilling to encourage Hae Rin's teasing. Yerin noticed the exchange and silently glared at the playful Hae Rin, not even realizing her own jealousy was making her sulky.

Dahye caught Yerin's look and felt the need to calm the rising tension. Across the room, she passed a small smile, letting Yerin know she hadn't been dismissive. Yerin's lips twitched slightly, hiding the mixture of annoyance and longing she felt.

That night, Eunseo called Yerin to check in. They laughed and talked briefly, and Yerin couldn't help but smile, thinking about the small, private moments she had shared with Dahye today. The day had been productive, but also a subtle battleground for hearts hidden beneath professionalism—a reminder that even in work, feelings could never truly be hidden.
