"He did not sign anything, Marcus, he was full of stitches and barley breathing," I scream, the wet tunnel air burning the back of my throat as my fingers bunch the expensive fabric of his coat collar.

Marcus doesn't even blink, his chest remaining perfectly still against my knuckles as the halogen lamp casts a jagged shadow across his cheek.

"You can hate me all you want, Aria," Marcus says quietly. "But that doesn't change what happened."

"Shut up," I snap.

Marcus exhales slowly.

"The signature on the digital validation block matches his personal routing key, Aria," he says, his voice remaining calm. "He went through the eastern emergency door on his own feet."

"No, he didn't," I say immediately.

"He did."

"No," I repeat, my voice cracking. "No, you're lying."
