CHAPTER 53: THE EXPLOSION
"You are lying to me, Patricia," I said.
My voice cut through the silence in the room.
My fingers dug into the edge of the table. My nails started to ache. The old woman did not look up from her hands. Outside, the rain was still tapping against the glass. It was an annoying sound. The tension in the room felt even tighter.
Ariana stepped closer. Her leather jacket creaked loudly in the space. She looked from me to the woman. Her jaw was tense.
"She is not lying, Aria," Ariana said. Her voice was sharp and defensive. "Look at my face. Look at your face. You think someone went to a clinic to copy your forehead just to play a prank on you?"
I turned on her. My breath was coming out fast.
"I am talking about Victoria," I snapped. "Victoria Voss was trying to give me files. A sniper took her out in a park. She was scared. If she was my mother's friend, why was she running from the same people my father worked with?"
