Jay POV.
Nothing but the years of CBI training and my highly alert senses could have e saved me from the bullet.
I twisted, dropped to the ground. I placed one of my foot on the ground and one of my kneel digging into the floor, taking my own gun out.
Suddenly a high chirping noise came out of my watch. A call. I attended it. It was James.
"They they're shooting the place you are in rn" He said.
"Oh really? I thought the sky just randomly decided to rain bullets." I replied sarcastically. "Ci n. Duck.." He looked panicked and shocked but still bent down, the bullet missed him by seconds. "Percy, sidestep." Percy just calmly stepped aside as if this happens every day.
I closed my eyes and concentrated on the exact place the bullets were coming from. I aimed, and shot.
A few seconds passed. I didn't let my guard down. And sure enough, bang!
Another bullet flew past me as I twisted my body sideways, missing my heart by inches. But I wasn't fast enough. The bullet grazed my left arm. Merely touched, but that was enough. A thin line of blood started oozing out of my hand. "Dammit" I muttered under my breath, before aiming my gun for another shot.
Just as I was aiming, James spoke from the phone again. "I'm sending our team to the location from which he's shooting. But, it's a place with civilians, so if there's a fight there, then there's a chance he might threaten innocent people. So you have to shoot him now before the team arrives."
"What do you think I'm doing dude? Making a sandwich?" I said. Don't blame me. I was irritated. And shot. I know it wasn't James's fault and that I probably shouldn't be rude to him. I don't care.
"Just don't kill him. We need to interrogate." James said, ignoring my sarcasm. So naturally, I ended up being more sarcastic.
"Oh sure. Because that's my number one priority right now. I'm sorry I'm too busy trying not to get killed instead of trying not to kill." I muttered.
This time, I concentrated even more, aimed for what i estimated to be his arms even though I couldn't even see him, and shot.
"They're there. Our team. And you shot him in his arm." James said.
"Left arm. Not fatal. Enough to cause damage and stop him from shooting. Yeah, I know what I'm doing." I said.
James: "How? You can't even see the attacker! Not to mention they're so damn far away. That's insane... and unfair! I can't even shoot the target this perfectly when I can see them."
"Skill issue." I said. Then turned to Percy. "We need to leave. Now." He understood immediately and stood up to leave. He didn't ask any questions. Unfortunately, the others did. I just shook my head and told them I'd explain later. If I could. And then left. After apologising to ci n and his family for ruining his birthday party, of course.
Kiefer pov.
I turned to edrix as soon she left, and ask him to find out whatever he could. Shockingly, he turned up with nothing. That's... impossible. Edrix always finds out everything. If even he couldn't hack into something... I didn't allow myself to finish that thought. I had to find out about her.
What if she's not safe? I'm doing this whole I-used-you drama just to protect her. But I'm starting to think now that I've got it all wrong. I'm starting to wonder if she is the one who's protecting us. But if yes, then from what? Or from whom?
Who are you, really, Jay Jay?
I clenched my fists determinedly. I didn't know, but I will find out. I'm Mark Kiefer Watson. I have my ways and I always get what I want.
And what I want right now, is to keep my queen safe. Even if she knows how to fight, I want to be the one who fights alongside her.
For now, I had to leave for London in 2 days.
I promise you Jay Jay. You will never have to fight alone once I get back. I'll come back stronger. I'll get strong enough to stand beside you my queen. Wait for me... wait for your king...
