Chapter 5 - § Resurgence Attempt

"No.... no... no... noooo...!!!!" Klein roared, punching at the hard surface at his feet.

The boy fell to his knees, shattered and on the edge of breaking down.

His face twisted with nothing but pure rage and hatred. He wanted to cry, but held his emotions back. But even worse, he couldn't cry.

He turned his head to the man besides him; Ryuga. The man was nonchalant. He looked absolutely empty and emotionally detached.

"Why? Why did that have to happen? Why didn't anyone save her? She didn't- she didn't deserve such a gruesome death..!!" He raged at Ryuga.

He caught the man by the collars and was about to punch him.

"Behave... or I will make you." Ryuga said simply.

Klein's punch halted just a distance from Ryuga's face. He gritted his teeth. God knows he wanted to unleash all the pain and rage in him.

But he couldn't.

"She died fighting. But I couldn't and I didn't do a thing. I just slept in while she and my child were brutally killed." Klein said in a deeply pained voice.

Though it wasn't reality, he could feel a lump build in his throat.

"Now then, let's resume. There's still more to see. The most important part of your memories." Ryuga swatted his hand away and they looked on. The memories kept flooding.

The following morning, Eric was dragged off to the dungeon cells. The man didn't not say a word in defence.

Those who found him were baffled by the gore and gruesome sight that filled the room. He didn't say a word in his defence. And some of them could tell, Eric was not in a state to do any of that.

Eric did not do anything during his time in prison. Days passed with him in the exact spot he was in.

Weeks passed with him in the exact same state. His mind was not just absent, he was broken, shattered. His world stripped bare before his eyes and taken from his hands.

But after a month and a few weeks passed, the man regained his mind.

He regained his old self, but he was late.

Eric opened his eyes, analysed the surroundings as the damp smell of the cell filled his nostrils.

His body was stiff, heavy and a little sore. He couldn't tell what exactly had happened to him. But some bruises were from being tortured with a whip.

His heart throbbed with the pain of a sad reality he had to accept and live in. His mind raced and calmed down.

"Eric, get up. This is not where you belong. Get up." The man forced himself up and on his feet. His bruised body flinched from a surge from pain and he staggered.

Eric went falling to the hard cold unforgiving ground. Regardless, he didn't give up. He persisted a few more times, attempting to get up.

"Damn it. Why am I unable to utilise my power? Who--- sealed my energy?" He gritted his teeth in frustration.

A guard rushed into the cell to find him struggling to stand up. He didn't say a word but rushed out.

Blood dripped from his knuckles and onto the ground.

Eric became disgusted with the boiling feeling of rage. Every single one of his attributes was completely negated. Durability, healing, strength and all the others.

"Unfor.....givable." Eric muttered, with determination.

He forced himself to his feet. Even feeling his strength slightly dissipating, he wasn't about to give up.

He walked to the bars and tried to force them open. They were stilled, unmoving. He gripped them tighter, forcing his sealed power to the surface.

"No one--- and I mean no one, will ever hold me back. I.... I.... I will shatter all restrictions." His arms filled with strength beyond normal standards.

His body was flooding with his dormant power. In the next second, the bars in his grasp cracked and he simply.... shattered them by pulling them apart.

He was about to walk out, with his head down. He staggered, helping himself to the exit. The door opened before he could reach it. But the one who stood before his eyes was one he knew well.

Short blonde hair, pink plump lips and Hazel eyes. She was one of his party members, Meribelle.

"Oh, you? What is..." Eric forced some words but he stopped. He had to stay focused to maintain the power flowing in him. Otherwise it was forced down whatever damned seal he was placed under.

"Eric... you're finally awake. You're finally back." The woman walked to Eric. With tears, she hugged him, but the man had grown almost numb bcoz of pain. He just patted her back and tried to move forward though she wouldn't let him.

"Meribelle, you have to move." He said, realising she's holding him back.

"No"

"I said, move. I've wasted enough time wallowing in my own misery I forgot my duties. I have to go and help find whoever did that to her."

"You can't. God knows I wish we could. But we can't. The others... they all believe you did that. None of them are willing to help you. I... am truly sorry, Eric." The woman's tears rained down her cheeks.

"What do you mean? I didn't do any of that. My own party should at least believe me. They should... right?" Eric was trying for a reason, looking to excuse whatever Meribelle was saying.

"I am sorry. But there is no way out of this. I came here because I want to help. But, I don't think I will ever have the chance since you've regained your mind."

"What? Why would you say that? Everything you are saying is not making any sense right now you know." The man was confused.

"The nobles are all keeping an eye on me for someone reason. And it feels like I'm constantly being watched. The others are---"

CREAK....!

The cell doors opened and a man in a noble attire. He was the King's advisor. Beside him were two guards.
