"Will you please stop playing with that poor girl. Everyone is waiting for you you know." A sweet feminine voice came from the other end of the corridor.
This was the girl he would do anything for, Brianne El-Vauxhall. Yes, she was of the same family, but a branch family. Making her a distant relative from him.
The society had many standards. One might expect their relationship would be mocked. But funny enough, it was acceptable.
Brothers couldn't marry their sisters any any kind of such relationship wasn't one to be to be permitted. But in the end, Klein loved Brianne as much as she loved him.
Her lime-like coloured hair swayed majestically when she walked. Her emerald eyes looked bright even when her emotions weren't so.
Despite her outward beauty, Klein was drawn to her keen intellect and kind nature.
Klein smirked and stepped back from Lucia.
"She intrigued me. And also, she has a very... alluring face. I simply couldn't ignore her. I suppose I'm a suckered for cute girls." Klein teased her with the last part.
He leaned closer to Lucia and whispered in her ear before walking towards Brianne.
"I knew you were a player. But I didn't think you would hit on a maid. Shame on you." Brianne rambled, mocking him in jealousy.
Ignoring her, Klein held her hand nd halted her. He scoffed lightly and pulled her in for a hug.
When he pulled back, a necklace was left on Brianne's neck. A lightning bolt in a sphere.
"It's my birthday. But I wanted to give you a gift. You are after all... a gift enough for me. For now matter what, I really do love you, Brianne." Klein said calmly.
He wasn't one to express his emotions by big displays or something that called for attention. Nonetheless, he was direct in every situation.
He was the literal translation for, "What you see is what you get."
"That necklace is connected to this bracelet. So it will always point you in my direction regardless of where I am." He said raising his hamd for her to see it from under his shirt.
"Thank you. I too, love you." Brianne said with a bright smile.
For a second, her smile resembled hers. Yes, the woman tied to the past he wanted to forget.
Klein snapped himself out of a short daze and he held Brianne's hand to the hall.
The hall was decorated beautifully, befitting a celebration of a noble. Red tablecloth with golden cups. Food set in abundance along with drinks.
That being said, everyone dressed to kill. His grandfather really held nothing back for his birthday. While he walked to his seat with Brianne beside him, His grandfather suddenly stood before him.
The old man had a large smile of confidence on his face. Besides him were Brianne's parents, dressed thir noble attire as one might expect.
Klein noticed the dress Brianne wore resembled her mother's.
"Greetings lady Mya. You look beautiful as beautiful as usual. It looks like Brianne might have a competition at this rate." He complemented her.
"Hahahahahah... you really are very different from your father. I didn't expect you would try to take a man's wife right before her husband and daughter." The old man laughed. Cutting Mya from saying a word.
"Oh, grandfather. You will get me in trouble if you keep saying things like that." Klein chuckled, denying the old man's words.
"Lady Mya, please ignore him. Your daughter is all i will need. I just have great respect for you." He said to the lady.
"At least the boy has manners. Unlike some old geezer with a mind in the gutter." Brianne's father said, poking his glasses in place. His words were directly attacking the grandfather.
"Darling, you shouldn't really say things like that." Mya said to the husband, her cheeks blushing with shame.
"Shall we take our seats now? There's a lot we have to enjoy. The others are still coming. But thye won't mind if we begin without them." The old man caught Klein by the shoulder and led him to their seats.
The group had its fair share of conversations and playfulness before the hall was occupied.
The large family of seventy-two members had about sixty-eight present. The servants, entertainers and guests were also in large groups.
The Vauxhall family had really prospered for the past years. Even with its internal disputes, they made sure not to do something that would bring shame to the family and cause it to fall from nobility.
The day was fun, and everyone had their share of entertainment. The sun was beginning to hide behind the mountains in the distance.
The sunset, beautiful as it painted the sky was alluring.
Brianne caught Klein by the hand and they went out to the balcony to watch it.
"Today was really great. I don't think I will ever forget it." Brianne spoke with her gave admiring the sky.
"I too won't forget it." Klein approved with a smile. He and Brianne intertwined their hands warmly.
"You know how... I always told you, "I like you." And you would always say, "I feel strongly" or "I feel the same." I want to change that." Brianne turned to Klein.
With short few steps, she stood right before him. He large melons smoothly against his chest.
Klein was unmoving, his body frozen in place. He knew what she was about to say, and somewhere deep inside him, he wanted to reject that.
Regardless, he couldn't utter a single word.
Brianne locked eyes with him. Her hands on the sides of his face. It was as if her pink lips had become even smoother in that moment.
"Klein El-Vauxhall, I really love you." Plain and simple with no hesitation and as much emotion as she could say it with. Brianne confessed.
This time it wasn't a childish love. But love of a woman for a man.
Without waiting for him to speak, she pulled Klein in for a smooth, heartfelt and long kiss.
