Peter could guarantee that the Ultimate Green Goblin ranked among the very strongest Green Goblin variants in the entire multiverse.
The Ultimate Green Goblin suddenly dropped from the air and smashed down with a terrifyingly heavy punch, shattering the rooftop of the tower and falling straight through it himself.
That move actually left both Peter and little Goblin Harry stunned.
The pressure from that attack had looked terrifying, sure, but one of them could fly and the other could swing on webs.
That shockwave really wasn't going to do much to them.
"Hey, I think your dad just had a complete breakdown."
"Don't say it like that, Peter. That thing is the Goblin, not my dad."
A wave of screams and panic erupted inside the building, then the huge green figure shot back out again and threw a punch straight at Peter.
Peter didn't react in time and was blasted away.
That single punch felt like getting hit by five heavy trucks at once. If his body weren't so tough, he would have coughed up blood on the spot.
Luckily, at the last second he fired a web line and swung back, shedding the force of the impact. Then he shot another web straight at the Ultimate Green Goblin's eyes, but the monster tore it off instantly and looked at him with a mocking grin.
"If that's all you've got, then you're a huge disappointment! You're nowhere near as good as the one from this world-"
Before the Ultimate Green Goblin could finish, a series of explosions roared out.
The glider beneath little Goblin Harry's feet launched twelve mini air-to-surface missiles, and every single one of them hit the Ultimate Green Goblin square in the back.
As the explosions went off, part of the monster's wings were blown apart, and his body became a mass of mangled flesh before he crashed off the rooftop.
"Nice! If you had those, why didn't you use them sooner?!"
Holding his aching chest, Peter shouted to little Goblin Harry.
He was also more than a little shaken. Fortunately, Harry hadn't used those things when the two of them had fought before. Otherwise Peter wouldn't have come out of it in one piece either.
"Only twelve. That's it."
Little Goblin Harry shrugged.
But before he could finish speaking, that giant green figure rose back into the air again.
Even though his back hadn't fully healed, nearly half of the damage was already gone. The regeneration from the fused serums in the Ultimate Green Goblin was outrageously broken.
"Harry, watch out!"
Peter shouted a warning, but it was completely unnecessary.
The Ultimate Green Goblin ignored little Goblin Harry entirely and went straight for Peter, grabbing him by the throat and driving him forward in a brutal charge. Even the rooftop water tower was smashed apart in the collision.
"You can't just keep focusing me alone!"
Peter gritted out through the pain.
Then he drove both Spider Arm Blades, each over thirty inches long, straight into the creature's shoulders.
If you're making my life miserable, then yours isn't staying easy either.
The Ultimate Green Goblin roared in pain and fury. His eyes lit up again, spewing burning beams wildly in every direction as chunks of stone exploded all around them.
Peter relied on slippery footwork and precise movement to keep up with the giant monster, while little Goblin Harry rushed in with his blade and slashed from the side.
But no matter how much Harry attacked, the Ultimate Green Goblin refused to fight him.
Peter remained the one taking the full beating.
...
Elsewhere, Officer Gwen had just finished dealing with a group of gang leaders. Through her own information network, she had also picked up some clues. The collision of universes might have something to do with Norman Osborn.
She didn't know exactly how she had gotten that lead, but it was right.
And since a major battle was happening here right now, one that was already causing civilian casualties, Gwen took charge of the response herself. George hadn't agreed at first, but she had convinced him in the end.
When she arrived on the scene, she was stunned.
Two nearby skyscrapers were wreathed in smoke, chunks of rubble kept crashing down, and two or three unlucky bystanders had already been killed by falling debris while trying to watch the spectacle. Gwen immediately set up a perimeter and looked up at the three figures fighting above.
The one in the red-and-blue suit had to be Peter.
She'd known the kid would never behave himself for long.
She had no idea how Peter had tracked this down, but despite being brand new to this universe, he somehow had better information than she did. In the end, she still hadn't been able to help him much at all.
As for the other giant figure, Gwen recognized the Ultimate Green Goblin immediately. She still didn't know exactly who he was, but he had been gone for quite a while.
The last one, the armored man flying on a glider and throwing spherical bombs, she couldn't identify at all. But based on his weapons, which looked a lot like the bombs the Ultimate Green Goblin had used before, she assumed he must be one of the Goblin's allies.
She was wrong.
And at the same time, she realized she was wrong.
Because that dark green armored figure was fighting alongside Peter against the Ultimate Green Goblin.
That meant he knew Peter, or at the very least he was on the same side.
Drops of red-and-green blood rained through the air.
They belonged to the Ultimate Green Goblin.
His regeneration was monstrous, but Peter and little Goblin Harry were working together so well that they kept catching him off guard. And since he was focused entirely on Peter, Harry could keep getting in cheap shots from the side.
Looking at Peter, swinging in and out with web lines and those two blades on his arms, Gwen was momentarily dazed.
She had heard him say yesterday that he handled things differently from this universe's Ultimate Spider-Man, but seeing it with her own eyes was still shocking.
Maybe he really was still a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
But he was also a Peter with his own rules, someone who refused to follow the same mold as everyone else.
Just from his fighting style alone, Gwen could tell his combat technique was nearly perfect. She found herself wondering how he had trained himself to that level.
Boom!!!
The Ultimate Green Goblin was sent crashing to the ground again by the combined assault of Peter and little Goblin Harry. A giant crater shaped like a human body appeared in the street, and cracks spread through the pavement like a spiderweb.
The crowd watching instantly lost their nerve and scattered screaming.
Who knew whether the Ultimate Green Goblin would crawl back out and kill all of them?
The situation had gone bad.
Running was the only smart choice.
Gwen snapped back to reality and quickly pulled her team back as well. In a situation like this, they couldn't help much. Maintaining order and keeping civilians safe was what mattered most.
Of course, this time she had also brought a very special weapon: a potassium disulfide iodide armor-piercing cannon.
Actually, potassium disulfide iodide wasn't supposed to exist. It shouldn't have been possible to create.
But after years of relentless progress and explosive technological growth, this universe had managed it.
Researchers had found that the substance could inflict irreversible damage on mutants with ease. The problem was that producing it required an enormous amount of money and resources, so the entire city only had a tiny stockpile.
And Gwen's weapon held only one shot.
She was still hesitating. If she used it at the wrong time and only made things worse, she'd hate herself forever.
"Peter!"
"Gwen?! What are you doing here?!"
"Get back!"
Hearing her voice, Peter spotted Gwen waving from below and shouted down immediately.
The situation was too dangerous now. The Ultimate Green Goblin was too strong. Peter and little Goblin Harry were only barely managing to force him onto the defensive. No wonder this universe's Ultimate Spider-Man had never been able to finish him off. Honestly, that wasn't the guy's fault at all.
The mutations and technology in this world were both insane.
"I found out some things. You might be able to get back soon."
"Gwen Stacy, is it?"
Before Peter could land, the Ultimate Green Goblin climbed out of the crater with a savage smile and said, "Harry's death is your fault too. You've spent years helping Spider-Man. Why not go down and keep him and Harry company?"
Then he reached for Gwen.
Gwen fired a shot from an electro-pulse pistol straight into his palm. It punched through his hand, but it didn't stop him at all. He grabbed Gwen anyway and beat his wings, carrying her into the sky.
Peter's face changed instantly, and he swung after them with little Goblin Harry close behind.
On the rooftop, which now looked like total ruins, the Ultimate Green Goblin stood like a conqueror with one hand wrapped around Gwen's throat, facing Peter and little Goblin Harry in the distance.
"Peter! Can you save her?!"
Then he let go.
Gwen, almost unconscious from being strangled, dropped from the top of the tower like a bird with broken wings.
"Gwen!"
Peter's mind went blank.
He didn't hesitate for even a second. He jumped after her immediately, even trying to fire a web line to catch her.
But in that instant, something flashed through his mind, and he froze.
Then he kicked off again with everything he had, sprinting through the air with desperate force.
"I..."
Gwen's mind was already blank too. As she watched the figure diving after her at impossible speed, she didn't feel fear of death.
Instead, a single thought rose quietly in her heart.
"Why wasn't the Peter I met... you?"
At the final possible moment, Peter caught her in his arms.
But behind him, a bright red, round bomb was dropping fast as well.
It was about to hit him.
And that bomb had come from the Ultimate Green Goblin.
He intended to kill both of them.
Not leave a single one alive.
