Chapter 47 - Chapter 47

  Chapter 47. Ugh! Disgusting!

Besides practicing spells by the Black Lake, Professor Fawkes had also found a separate place for Lynn to practice dark magic:

an abandoned upperclassman's Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom.

The space was large, and it had once been enchanted with protective spells, so the noise from ordinary spells wouldn't get out.

Lynn was very talented, but until he could translate that talent into real power, he was still a novice.

Every Wednesday afternoon, when he had no classes, Lynn would use this time to practice dark magic in this classroom.

When he was with Cedric, he certainly wouldn't practice forbidden spells indiscriminately; if word got out that Professor Fawkes was secretly teaching a minor dark magic, it would likely cause a lot of trouble.

Lynn had already learned quite a few spells.

Not counting the spells taught in the normal first year, he had mastered nine evil spells, eight poison spells, and two curses equivalent to dark magic.

The two most powerful spells were also these two: the Divine Slash and the Explosive Spell.

Although their effects were limited, dark magic was still dark magic. Even if Lynn couldn't destroy a wall with one Explosive Spell, he could probably cripple the Willow of Men.

It was fortunate that Professor Fawkes had found him a reliable classroom; otherwise, he would have been struggling to find a place to practice his powerful spells.

However, he couldn't stay in this classroom for long. Some older wizards had already noticed him practicing spells alone during class, and if this continued, suspicion would inevitably arise.

Lynn felt he needed to find the Room of Requirement, the place where Hogwarts Castle was hidden.

He donned the title "Newcomer," and using its bonuses, first practiced all the spells he had learned.

Spell practice was actually quite tedious; one had to constantly cast spells to get a feel for them, fine-tuning the pronunciation and hand gestures to maintain optimal effect.

  ...

Raphael had been in a terrible mood lately.

His girlfriend of two years had broken up with him a few days ago.

Their relationship wasn't just a short two-year romance; their families had been close for generations, and he and Betty had grown up together as childhood sweethearts.

However, as they grew older, Betty's views diverged more and more significantly from his.

This led to a buildup of conflict between them, and the affair between Betty's brother and his cousin was merely the trigger.

He simply couldn't understand why Betty now held the idea that wizards and Muggles were equal.

  How could they be equal?

They had everything Muggles had, and they also had things Muggles didn't have. If judged by the superiority of species, wizards should be the most perfect humans.

  And Muggles…

when they're in a good mood, they might lower themselves to show off the good manners of wizards, but when they're in a bad mood, what's the difference between them and ordinary monkeys?

Betty, not only vehemently denounced his "correct thinking," but also actively sought out young wizards from mixed-race families, even Muggle families!

Especially that first-year wizard named Lynn.

Raphael wasn't blind; he could see that Betty treated him with significantly more care.

So, on that day, after Betty proposed breaking up, he agreed.

Betty, once of pure blood and noble status, had changed!

She was no longer worthy of being the future mistress of the Williamson family.

After the breakup, Raphael was in a bad mood, but he wasn't angry at all.

  Wasn't this Betty's loss?

She had given up someone as excellent as him and was now supposedly pursuing Lynn, that monkey's offspring.

After learning about this, he felt nothing but mocking Betty's blindness.

As for seeking revenge on Lynn, don't be ridiculous. A prefect of the upperclassmen causing trouble for a first-year wizard—no matter the outcome, he'd only be the one who suffers.

The fact that he'd reached the prefectural level proves he's not a reckless fool acting on impulse.

Even after the breakup, Raphael's life at Hogwarts continued as usual.

On Wednesday afternoon, after finishing his tedious History of Magic class with his roommate, he was on his way back to the common room when he suddenly heard strange noises coming from an abandoned classroom.

"Could it be Peeves? He always likes to play these pranks, tricking us into going in and then throwing rotten eggs at us,"

one of Raphael's roommates said half-jokingly.

  Raphael shook his head.

"Peeves wouldn't dare mess with us. Don't forget, Bloody Barrow warned him."

"Shall we go in and check?"

"Let's see. Maybe a Gryffindor student is causing trouble in there. If we catch him and report him to the professor, maybe he'll lose points."

They chatted idly, then pushed open the classroom door.

There was no Peeves, no Gryffindor wizards, only a Slytherin first-year practicing spells.

"Oh, it's Lynn. You practice spells here every day? No wonder your grades are so good."

There were only so many people in Hogwarts, not to mention they were all from the same house, so Raphael's roommates naturally recognized Lynn, who had made a name for himself since the start of the semester.

Lynn put down his wand, a headache creeping into his mind. He knew he had to get back to the Room of Requirement, but he still greeted them politely.

"Hello, seniors, I'm just practicing here."

Raphael also saw Lynn, but for some reason, the moment he saw Lynn's face, a nameless fire suddenly rose within him.

He thought of his ex-girlfriend Betty, who always liked to flirt with Lynn; he thought of Lynn's lowly birth; and he thought of his talent despite his humble origins!

  He sneered and said sarcastically.

"It's just random practice, even if you practiced seriously, you wouldn't amount to anything."

His words immediately changed the expression of his roommate.

  "Raphael, what's wrong?"

Lynn noticed something was amiss; he only then remembered he'd forgotten to change his title.

But it was too late now. Raphael, as if venting his anger, spoke increasingly harshly.

"Who do you think you are! Lynn Bellok! How could Betty have fallen for you! How could your filthy bloodline possess something as great as magic!

You think you're so great at school? You think your talent is outstanding?

You think your efforts will bring you the rewards you desire? Don't dream! You mud-blood are as disgusting as bedbugs! Pah! Disgusting!"

   Pah!
