Chapter 21 - A Magical Lesson

Especially since he was the last remaining bloodline and possessed the legal right to the throne.

Aladdin and the others followed behind them on their flying magic carpets.

They passed through a small corridor before arriving at a large hall.

The hall was immense and filled with shelves containing books of different sizes, arranged on the ground, by the sides of the walls, and even on layered steps reaching up to the ceiling. Hanging from the ceiling was a huge chandelier. And around it were broken glass murals reflecting the sunlight pouring down from the heavens.

It was as though this library contained all the knowledge gathered since the inception of the Empire of Ababwa. Considering that this was a newly created Kingdom, Aladdin knew that it probably did.

"This is the library of the imperial magic court of Ababwa. It also contains the histories of the Empire of Ababwa. Whatever you want to find out about magic or the Empire, you can find it here. Here is a map detailing the library and where to locate what you're looking for," an imperial magic court disciple said, handing a folded pamphlet over to Aladdin.

"Forgive us for the sight above, Your Highness. It had been destroyed during the Witches of the Sand attack; we're still working on fixing it," the other imperial magic court disciple said.

They bowed to Aladdin at the same time.

"I understand," Aladdin waved his hand at them, gesturing for them to stand straight.

They straightened their bodies and sighed in relief.

"If there's anything you need, please don't hesitate to summon us. We'll be taking our leave, Your Highness," one of the imperial magic court disciples said.

They both bowed once more, turned around, and exited the library.

"So, what are you looking for?" Jasmine asked, her curiosity overwhelming her.

"I want to see if I can learn magic. And I think that this is the best place that I can start from," Aladdin responded, looking at Jasmine.

Then, shifting his attention to Genie, "You promised that you would help me be a teacher, remember?"

"Me... I said no such thing, your honour," Genie said, stepping backwards with fright in his eyes.

Suddenly, two metallic handcuffs appeared on his hands.

"Okay... you got me!! I'll say the truth!! I will confess!!" Genie collapsed on his knees and spoke as though crying out in desperation.

With a poof of smoke, he vanished and reappeared, this time with a blackboard and a table behind him. He was dressed in a pair of black trousers, sandals, and a white shirt.

A table appeared before Aladdin, Jasmine, and the others as well. Chairs appeared behind them and pushed them down to sit, sliding them toward the tables.

Before Genie could speak, Jasmine raised her hand.

"Yes, you," Genie pointed at her.

"Although I find the prospect of learning magic exciting, I don't think that I desire to be locked up in a library for the entire day. I would rather take a stroll in the city," Jasmine said, standing up from her seat.

As someone who grew up in the palace of Agrabah, she was well accustomed to magic and had already had her father get her someone to teach her when she was at an earlier age.

In fact, her teacher had informed her that her magical aptitude was above average. However, her teacher had said that while her desire for freedom was commendable, her lack of self-awareness might become a problem on her journey.

So she would need to train her body and mind first before commencing training for her magical skills, if she wanted to master magic to command objects and winds, which would take close to a decade. It was from then on that she lost her interest in it.

Even now, rather than staying behind to see how Genie could teach them, she would rather go explore the streets of Ababwa and all of its delights that it had to offer. Besides, with Aladdin, Genie, and the magic carpets present, she doubted that she would encounter any danger.

Unbeknownst to Jasmine, her lack of self-awareness that had led her to almost having her hand chopped off in the bazaar before Aladdin rescued her had been triggered at this moment once more.

"Ah, a free bird," Genie remarked. "Okay, you can leave."

Fortunately, Aladdin was quick to see right through it.

"Tell the imperial magic court's disciples to inform General Rakim that you want to stroll around the kingdom. And take the carpet with you," he said.

Jasmine nodded. She leaned in and kissed him on the cheek. "I'll see you later." She turned around and left.

Aladdin smiled briefly before his face returned to normal.

Carpet and the green Carpet followed behind her as she exited the library.

"Now, let's begin. What do you know about magic?" Genie asked.

"Nothing," Aladdin shook his head.

"Okay, we can work with that," Genie adjusted his glasses.

"First, magic is an invisible, or sometimes visible, force of the universe that's all around us. Some can feel it and utilise it. But some cannot," he explained. "The first thing that you need to understand before going monjo-jumbo is that there are three rules to understanding and utilising magic."

"The first is 'Understanding,' knowing what the magic is and how it works. The second is intent, or better yet, will, which determines the personal strength and stability of magic. And lastly, the source, which could be from the soul, external sources such as artefacts, the environment, and lastly, contracts..."

Genie lectured for half an hour, fitting everything he could into that short time frame before he gave up teaching and magically transferred all the information that Aladdin needed to learn magic into his mind.

"You're smarter than any master I've ever remembered having, and young too. You are conscious of your actions, both on yourself and those around you. With your second wish, mastering any magic you desire would be a breeze," Genie withdrew his hand and spoke.
