Sairis's POV
He could not afford to tell Loreen the real reason he had not stopped Candice from coming to the palace, but had chosen to follow her instead. He could not tell him about what he was really looking for.
Sairis needed answers.
He needed to know what had happened to his family. What the king had seen to accuse and execute his father, and what his father had said to Greta before his death. That name alone tightened something in his chest.
Sairis swallowed hard. He would find out. Even if it meant standing in the middle of the palace that had destroyed his family. Even if it meant risking his life.
He did not care.
A sudden movement pulled him from his thoughts.
Loreen's hand moved faster than Sairis could process, his thumb brushing lightly beneath Sairis's eye. Only then did Sairis realize a tear had slipped through, and Loreen had already seen him cry.
Sairis went stilled
Loreen stared at him for a moment, then let out a quiet sigh, pulling his hand back.
