Sairis POV
More than one scent hit Sairis at once as he stepped into the dining hall. It came all at once, heavy and mixed. Betas. Different layers of strength and presence filling the air. For a brief second, it made his head feel light.
He had not expected this.
His eyes moved quickly, taking in the room. A long table stretched across the center, filled with people. Not just a few. Many.
The only empty seats were the one at the head of the table which was obviously the King's seat, and three along the sides. One on the right. Two on the left.
Sairis counted without meaning to, and there were about twenty people seated, not including the servants lined against the walls.
His fingers tightened slightly around Loreen's arm as he turned to him.
Loreen already had a brow raised, watching him closely. He had probably noticed the shift when Sairis had stopped walking. Of course he had.
"You were born ready, remember?" Loreen said, his voice low, but with a hint of amusement.
