It was finally D-day, the day of the court proceeding, and the courthouse was already drowning in chaos before sunrise.
News vans crowded the streets outside the massive gray building of the court, reporters pushing against metal barricades while cameramen struggled to capture every angle possible. Microphones were shoved into the faces of anyone remotely connected to the case. Police officers barked orders endlessly, trying and failing to maintain control over the swelling crowd.
The case had become the nation's obsession since it happened. People argued everywhere. Some defended the doctor fiercely; others demanded punishment.
And the media devoured every second of it.
Rain clouds hung heavily above the city, turning the morning dim and cold. The air smelled of car smoke and tension as people waited.
Then a black police vehicle finally turned into the courthouse entrance, and immediately, the crowd exploded.
