After another week of travelling through the forest, we slowly proceed to cross over the mountain.
The journey was uneventful, with the moose meat in our backpacks, our strength and energy was an all-time high.
As we got closer to Smoke Town we encountered less dangerous magical beasts and more normal beasts.
Cynthia then says.
"You know you're quite lucky to have Krikos with us. He's a good scout, and an early warning signal. Because I thought you would have most likely lost a limb by now, maybe even two."
I paused and then stared at the back of her head.
"....."
"You say, what now?"
"Lost limbs?!"
Cynthia replies with.
"Of course? First of all we avoided all magical beasts. Second, we never get lost because of Krikos. Third we gotten really lucky since we didn't meet any magic insects"
"There like two groups of hive mind insects we didn't encounter which is pretty lucky."
"The group of Huge Magical Angry Wasps with deadly stingers, or just Mana Wasps for short."
"Those Mana Wasps are called Huge Magical Angry Wasps for a reason. Their one foot in size and their stinger is the same size as their body when attacking".
"Basically they can puncture right through you. Don't forget their stinger even has a violent poison that burns your skin and flesh."
"And then there's the Huge Fire Ant colony. Which is just as bad. They dig through the ground and swarm you and inject you with paralyzing poison so they can bring you to their queen.
"The reason they call them the Huge Fire Ant Colon is because they are also a foot in size and they're never alone, plus whenever they die they explode, thus sending a signal to other ants to swarm over and hunt you down."
"To be honest I didn't think you would make it at all. Of course I would be sad and get revenge for you. Well only after I recovered and got stronger, but I never thought we'd make it this far without any injuries, I'm glad."
I broke into a cold sweat thinking to myself.
'I thought she was a nice sweet girl, but this girl is crazy.'
Then I stopped walking and she noticed and stopped as well. She then turned around, while tilting her head to the side. Looking at me confused saying.
"Huh, why did we stop?"
I gasped for air and took some deep breaths to calm down. I wiped my sweat from my forehead and they said.
"You thought I was going to lose a limb or two? Maybe even die?!"
"Why didn't you tell me the dangers of this expedition?"
"Why didn't I learn how to use mana first, before we headed off on this dangerous journey?"
She then sits down and laughs on me crying with tears.
"Hahhahahahah"
"Hehehhehh"
"Oh gosh, goodness me"
"HahhaahahhHAHAH"
"Your killing me HAHAHAH"
I looked at her confused, thinking to myself. ' she might actually be a crazy girl crazy bi**h'
Then Krikos flies over and lands on my shoulder looking confused then asking.
"Kik?"
Then he turned to look at Cynthia and then back at me while tilting his head.
Then Cynthia flamed down and wiped her tears and said.
"You asked me to remember? You said your wish was and I quote. 'going into town, meeting new people and getting out of the Deep Forest.'"
"Then you asked to learn how to sense and use mana. After that you asked me to help you get a new origin."
"I was just sticking to the order of your requests"
" go to town, meet new people in town, get far away from Deep Forest, learn about magic, then get proper origin documents. "
"It made sense to me since you don't really need an origin, if you walk into town with me. The town mayor has to give me some face. After all, I'm a noble. Learning magic could happen anywhere."
"Hahahahha"
" I thought you knew, and that you were in a hurry."
"Heheheheh."
"We risked your life because of a misunderstanding."
"Hahhahshahhaha"
I then stopped her and said.
"WAIT! I TOLD YOU! I LOST MY MEMORIES!"
She then giggled some more and said.
"Hehehhehe"
"I thought you were just setting up a cover up since you're an orphan. You know some people are embarrassed and make some lies."
She then stopped laughing and stood up. Her face got all serious and she stepped over, to stand right in front of me. Then she bowed 90°. Then saying.
"I'm sorry I put you in danger, because of my misunderstanding and poor judgment."
I stared at her for a few seconds and then just sighed. Then said.
"It's okay, I didn't even get hurt so it's fine."
Krikis also nodded his head.
I gave her a pat on the shoulder and said.
"Lets go, were friend anyways"
As Krikos flew off to scout head, I looked back and saw the noble girl blushing. Then I said.
"Let's go princess!"
She quickly hid and faced her hands and started running ahead.
I thought to myself. 'Maybe this isn't so bad after all. But she's definitely a loser with no friends.'
As we climbed the mountain at its highest point. We could see smoke in the far distance. Cynthia said.
"See that Smoke, that's from Smoke Town. We're not that far. We're almost there."
"Just a few more days of travel and if we manage to sneak past goblin village, we'll make it to town."
I then think to myself. 'That's great. Just a few more days of travel then sneak past the goblin village and we'll be in the town.'
Then I scream at her.
"What do you mean sneak past a GOBLIN VILLAGE?!"
"I THOUGHT YOU SAID THE WORSE PART WAS OVER!"
She replied by saying.
"It is, this part should be the easy bit. You don't understand the dangers we were in before. Not to mention the HUGE wasps or ants."
"Just the snake beast we encountered if he wanted to hunt us, we both would have been his first meal."
"That snake was a bona fide B rank beast. A, B ranked beast has a human toddler's intelligence. So it knew something was up, when we were hunting his territory."
" He just allowed it to happen since we were paying a tribute. If he was unkind then our journey luck would have run out and we would be in his stomach."
"Though it's kind of romantic in a kind of way, fighting together, dying together and staying together forever. Even our remains would be together in his nest."
Then I got a shiver. 'She is crazy for real.'
Then she continues.
"Don't forget the whole Deep Forest is owned by the Dragon, on the other mountain down south. We were just lucky the Dragon was generous."
"Anyways what are a couple of Goblins gonna do to us now? We made it out from worse dangers, so stop whining."
Then I thought to myself. 'She's right we made it out of worse life and death situations, so how bad could a couple of Goblins be?'
As we headed through the forest every step we took I got more excited and scared.
The fear of goblins and the excitement of civilization inches closer to reality.
After a day and a half of travel. Krikos discovers the Goblin village. He flies back to us thrb cries out with fear.
"Kee."
"Kee."
He's shivering. I hadn't seen him do this, since the last time I poked him with my spear.
As we arrived closer to the Goblin village I saw wooden log walls and watch towers. Dozens of goblins on each side of a wall keeping watch.
With other groups of goblins, bringing back prey from their recent hunt as they return to the base through the wooden gate.
I slowly turned to Cyntha with blood shot eyes then I whispered in a low deep voice.
"You call that a couple goblins? They're multiple dozens. Maybe even a hundred goblins in there, maybe even more!"
"Are you trying to get me killed?"
Cynthia does a cute little giggle, which seems to be a little evil. She made me a bit nervous.
Then she said.
"Don't worry I can handle this, keys just hide until it's mid night and eat something we'll wait for most of them to fall asleep then I'll take action."
So found a place to hide and had some dinner. We watched the goblins slowly decrease in number and activity as the sun slowly starts to set.
As midnight approaches, I count the number of goblins keeping watch only about four per side so 16 in total the rest most likely went to sleep.
When it finally struck midnight. Cynthia told me her plan.
"First we sneak into the base of the goblins. Second, we kill whoever we can without getting caught. Third we set everything on fire. Fourth we turn tail and run and escape to Smoke Town. The plan is fool proof. Smoke town is only a day's journey away."
I couldn't believe she was worried that I was a psycho mass murderer. But it turned out that she was. We could have just circled around the village. So we didn't need to put ourselves in danger.
I told her my idea but it was quickly denied.
"No! I don't want to! It's not fun that way! PLEASE! Let's do it my way!"
I am such a sorry loser because I agreed, like what could I do? She said please.
So we slowly sneak towards the log walls of the Goblin village using the foliage to hide boys. As we got closer one of the goblins seemed to notice something suspicious and started to head over to us. As he stepped closer I made sure he was hidden behind a tree before I took him out with my throwing knives.
It took one shot to the throat and he was done in.
I caught his body to lay it down on the ground using dead leaves to cover him and started to hunt down his friends. It took a while but I finally assassinated all 14 guardsmen.
I was sweating from the nerve-wracking situation. As I placed the last goblin onto the ground. Cynthia and I proceeded to sneak into the village.
Cynthia, the clever noble girl, quickly found the place where they kept all their torch oil. As we split the oil among ourselves we slowly started to oil up all the hunt that housed the goblins. We were setting up Cynthia goal, a great Goblin, in-house bonfire.
When I used up all the oil Cynthia gave me. I headed over to our meet-up destination, the gate leading to the direction of Smoke Town.
As I waited, I saw Cynthia slowly sneaking over to me and she let out a small giggle. After she caught her breath she started to chant a magic spell.
"Oh Fire of the world I Cynthia. I ask you in my time of need, to purify the evil of this world. I set up this crucible, so we can condemn the unrighteous to the all burning flame of purification. BURN!"
The spell was flashy and grand with what looked like a magic circle with weird scribbles within them.
This wasn't any type of magic I've seen before.
The magic circle was originally 4 feet in diameter. But after she said burn, it was then enlarged and covered the whole village.
At first I was scared because the flame also lit up near me, but Cynthia then comforted me. By saying that the flames will only burn enemies, so I wouldn't have to worry about getting burned.
The flames were bright white with a mix of light blue, beautiful like a pulsating white star.
As I looked at the burning goblin village, I could hear screams of pain and anger. Cries of old and young goblins not understanding what was going on and cries of utter panic.
As I watched everything burn, even the wooden wall and huts. The goblins built were burnt to ashes; nothing was left.
I turn to look at Cynthia. Her smile was bright and wide. She looked excited and joyful with a dangerous glint in her eyes. Maybe it was just the light from the flames.
As her hair shined through the lights of the burning flame and her eyes glowed with an almost divine grey. I lost myself to her beauty. I stared at her until she noticed. That was when I saw a pink blush appear on her delicate cheeks.
I just smiled and kept on staring, enjoying her beauty. At that moment she leaned forward and gave me a peck on the cheek.
Her face and ear turned crimson and then she ran off towards the direction of Smoke Town. It took me a while to regain mental clarity. Since I was so shocked.
The only reason why I came back from my frozen state. It was because Krikos noticed me frozen in place, he landed on my shoulder, after he cried out a few times and I didn't respond. He then started to peck at me with his sharp, but broken beak.
When I came to, I chased after Cynthia in the direction of Smoke Town.
Just one more day and I'll finally be able to meet new people and enjoy civilization.
