"Eli," Lina said slowly, twirling a strand of her curls, "first of all, you had your first kiss with a mysterious stranger whose face you didn't see. And now, this gorgeous, intimidating man has proposes to you."
I slammed my face into my hands. My palms felt hot. "Don't remind me. This is exactly why I don't tell you guys anything. You're making it worse."
"Wrong," Lina said immediately, looking excited. "This is exactly why you should tell us things. It's like a drama, but better because it's happening to my best friend!"
Amelie didn't even blink. She was just standing there against the window, buried in this massive black hoodie. She'd been quiet for ten minutes, which usually meant she was analyzing the situation.
"I knew he had a motive when he picked you up," Amelie said. "It sounds weird, honestly. Did you ask him why he did it?"
"No."
"You didn't ask why he proposed?" Lina looked personally offended. "That's literally the first thing you say! You don't just sit there!"
