"what do you want?" I found myself asking
" I am you and I want nothing from you."
"You can't be me."
" Yes, I can and you would not tell me what to do."
" But..."
" You know you don't have to talk out loud for the whole world to know that you're talking to what you aren't seeing, right?"
" What are you?" I summoned up courage and asked
" I am you, don't you get it?"
" No, I don't get it."
" I'm Deimos, your demon and probably the only good reason you exist."
" My demon ? Like figuratively?"
"No, slow lad. Literally."
I sighed out of relief, " for a second I thought you meant literally."
I laughed dryly sat what I thought was
Deimos being sarcastic.
" Wait, do you think I'm joking? I'm not, ape. I AM your demon. Is that laughable to you?!" Anger evident in his voice.
I paused, what did he mean by he was my demon?
" I...I don't understand." I managed to say
" Of course you wouldn't."
" But that's not possible. I'm human, everyone is."
" You're not, obviously. You have a demon cause you are a demon, get it?"
" No, that's fucking ridiculous."
" Would you shut up and reason?"
I paused, pinched myself hoping it was just another weird dream
But it wasn't, a thing was talking to me.
I wasn't seeing it.
" It doesn't make any sense, if you say so that'll mean Claude..."
" Of course! He's Damien. And Tamara, yes, slow lad."
My mind travelled far, I couldn't think straight.
" Then...then why didn't he tell me?" I forced
"Because he didn't feel like it and he made the perfect decision." I suddenly felt angry. Was that the reason for his terrible eating habits lately? He and Tamara left me in the dark as what? The dumb one? I stood up walking straight to the infirmary where Claude was.
" Don't ask him too many questions." Deimos reminded and I didn't respond.
I knocked on the door, didn't wait for a response before I walked in.
" We need to talk." I said to Claude.
" I'm busy." He responded
" It's urgent." I said and he sighed walking out with me.
" What's this about? You never have a proper conversation."
" Who's Damien?" I asked.
" A person." The nonchalance in his response made me angrier
" Don't be such a fuck, Claude. Who is Damien?"
" I'm Damien." He said it just like that like it was normal, like his life was normal and my reality insane.
Everything was happening too fast.
I couldn't believe my ears.
" Explain yourself."
"He's my demon Calhoun, why do you ask?"
" Why do I ask? Have you gone crazy? Are you mentally sick, Claude? You're saying that so casually like it's normal. How long have you been whatever the fuck you are?!"
" Like two months."
" Is that the reason for the terrible eating habits and the whole attitude you've been giving me? "
" Look, there's no point getting upset. You know now because you've connected, that's pretty good."
" You've gone mad."
I shook my head in utter disbelief.
" No, I've not. I just didn't tell you cause you wouldn't believe me and if I had shown you you'd have freaked out."
" Why the hell wouldn't I freak out? Of course I thought everyone was normal and of all the people to be abnormal, it had to be me!"
" Well, now that you know it's really good. I've been looking forward to talking to Tamara about going to a special academy."
" Why are you saying this like it's normal?!"
" Cause I'm used to this and you have to do same, get used to it. Back to the Academy."
"Why?"
" To learn, what else?"
" Aren't you learning anything here?"
" You're such an idiot. I mean to learn about your new abilities. To mingle with your kind. You just found yourself out, you need to explore. If you can read yourself properly, there's this endless urge to explore what you newly have..."
" Just shut up," I try to pull mysef together, " are you listening to yoursef?"
" None of this is real, Claude. None!"
I took two steps backwards, unsure.
" Wake up, dude," Claude said after a while," The earlier the better for you. The more tendencies you have to run wild and make it obvious. Accept what you are as I have done. "
I shook my head, not because he was trash talking, but because I had this gut feeling it was true, because I couldn't face whatever truth he was telling me. I couldn't just believe it.
Seventeen years.
Seventeen years of being human, normal.
Living like every normal person.
The silence stung especially since I could feel it. Even the air felt heavy.
I shook my head again.
" Seeing is believing, isn't it?" Claude spoke since the air was so silent.
He closed his eyes, his fingers twitching, deep inside me I hoped nothing happened but no, thick dark heavy looking smoke exudes from his hands and I stand there in awe.
I couldn't breathe, couldn't speak. I just stood, frozen.
My whole life flashed before my eyes.
