Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

Our trainings intensified but they seemed somewhat easier for me than Claude.

I smashed the last mini mountain and wiped sweat off my forehead. Raising my head, I fixed my gaze on Carmen. She was so sharp, precise and she wasn't even trying. I noticed I wasn't the only one watching her, Lilith was too and I could see a hint of worry in Lilith's eyes. Definitely because Carmen showed zero expressions. Nothing you can read through. She wasn't sweating, somehow, dangerous perfection looked good on her.

That was definitely the only aura she exumed. Terrifying because they didn't have much vampires in the school and according to Azazel, the very few they had where Whitlocks. Supposedly, Whitlocks are less dangerous than pure bloods.

"Hi" some girl came to me.

" I'm Samantha, can I know you're name?" She asked.

" No." I replied calmly.

" What?" She sounded surprised.

" You said can you know my name, right?"

" Right."

" And I said, no." I picked a towel and walked away.

" Cringe bitch." Deimos added.

" For a while, I thought you'd ignore me the whole day." I said to him.

" Yeah I was. But that cringe bitch made it difficult. You and I are going to have a problem very soon if you're not careful."

" Why?"

" You're supposed to be more like me, you fucked up that race. You seem not to understand what you posses. I have never been defeated from my existence, Calhoun. Do not try to make a stupid difference." He growled.

" He was fast. Like smoke fast."

" That's because he's a smoke demon just like you are, dumb freak."

" This whole smoke thing is still very new to me, Deimos. I'm still trying to understand this. The only reason I agreed to it is because I didn't want to look more stupid than I already probably looked to Claude and Tamara for two whole months."

" Still trying to understand? You don't understand power, you use it or you get buried even though you have it."

" I'm not you, Deimos." I sighed.

" That's pretty much obvious. If you were, you'd be better than this, way better."

I sighed again and turned back to the field.

" Don't you know what you posses, don't you have any idea how great I am?! I am not a kid, Salvadore. Don't you know you have power to control rain, produce sense weakning smoke and do a lot more as long as I give you power to?"

" Did you just say cause rain? Dude... that's just..."

" Shut up, dullard. Look at your hands." He said. I had never heard him sound so controlling, not like I knew him much.

I looked at my hands.

" How do they feel?"

" Light."

" Now move your fingers."

I moved my fingers.

" Lift the air like you can control it and then quietly force it into a direction."

I tried, nothing happened.

" Not that kinda force. Urgh, close your eyes and concentrate on your palms. Focus, Salvadore!" He growled.

I closed my eyes shutting out everything around me and laid all emphasis on it. I felt something slightly ticklish.

" More focus."

I tried to focus more, carrying as Deimos said and focusing.

"Good, more focus."

I concentrated harder.

" Open your eyes."

When I opened my eyes, my mouth hung open. I saw it, thick, dark smoke coming from my palms, swirling around me.

" That carries a lot of weight as it looks. It's heavy and with the ability to suck out life and ruin all five senses."

" Look Calhoun, Ricardo is not going to be a problem for us and he shouldn't be at all. Do you understand me?" Deimos asked.

" I guess." I managed to say. I took the smoke back in and then felt someone tap my shoulders. I turned and it was Azazel.

" Hey, I'm actually looking for the bathroom." I said.

" So I came at the right time." She laughed as we walked through the hall. Some students bowed slightly as we passed.

"'Why the bows?" I asked.

" Dude, we're like The rank S students. We are not the entire class, there's just us. The nine of us, we carry the strongest last names and strongest abilities. We're not seniors, we're superiors, don't you get it?"

" Who's the nine of us?" I had to ask.

" Ricardo, Astaroth, Azrael Raphael, Ashenville, Loothgate, Damon, Yourself, Your brother, then myself. Damon is Killian, the guy with unnecessarily great hair.

We walked silently as I pondered on her words. The mini of us, and that dude Ricardo was number one.

" So you guys were ranked."

" According to our abilities every beginning of a week. It used to be: Ricardo,

Astaroth,

Raphael

Belphagor

Killian Damon and

Loothgate. But now, I feel things are a lot different due to your arrival and Ashenville 's. To me, I personally feel she'd be better than Astaroth and Claude will be tieing with Raphael. If she's better than Astaroth then she's way better than me. You'd probably be on second place unless you have a death wish of first place. But I wish you good luck anyways."

" You make it sound so impossible and you say it like no one has ever tried."

" Someone actually has. He died trying."

" How exactly did he die trying?" I asked with a hint of frustration in my voice.

" He was putting a lot of effort into intensifying his training. Unlike you, he didn't reach Ricardo in a race, he never beat himat anything, all he was doing was trying too hard. He trained alone with extreme intensity. He thought Ricardo was doing all he was until he lost his balance on that very courtyard and his sword laced with poison dropped right into his head. Poor thing. He died like one of those Final Destination movies. It was low-key epic, I just didn't say it."

We came to a stop and she pointed the door of the bathroom. When I went in, I just stared at myself in the mirror. I just couldn't shake off the feeling. I looked different. Somehow to myself. I could feel it.

" Try it again." Deimos said.

I carried out the same process. Focused harder on my palms once again and then thick dark heavy looking smoke came almost smoothly. I suddenly felt like doing something so I channelled the smoke to one of the bathroom stalls door and it came crashing down immediately.

" Exactly. Practice makes perfection easier." Deimos said.

" But...what about the rain part?" I found myself asking.

" Figure that out yourself, lazy pig."

I frowned.

" If you keep that laziness, that dumb fuck useless arse hole, Ricardo, will remain a second ahead of you."

" I'm not being lazy."

" Lazy about your abilities, dumbass."

" I had no idea I could do such, don't blame me."

" Well yo you know now so done keep the same energy as before."

I walked out of the bathroom to meet Azazel leaning beside the bathroom door.

" I would have followed you in there in case you needed company." She winked and I laughed.

" I know you feel compelled to being ahead of Ricardo, just don't push it too far."

I didn't reply, there was nothing to say. Talking wouldn't solve anything, doing it will.I just walked back to the courtyard and continued training until the instructor blew a whistle.
