Chapter 28 - Level 4 – Soul Summon

The last Outpost Killer crumpled to the concrete in a broken heap, sanity completely evaporated. The warehouse fell into an eerie hush. Violet-black tendrils of Pestilence Type 3 slowly retracted into Daniel Voss's skin, leaving only faint glowing veins along his arms. The pipe rested lightly in his grip, its fractal etchings pulsing with subdued light.

Vannia knelt beside her unconscious sister, silver aura wrapped protectively around Mia's still form. She looked up at Daniel, eyes red but steady.

"It's over," she whispered. "They're gone."

Daniel nodded once. He could still feel the raw power of Immune All and Pestilence Type 3 thrumming inside him, but something deeper stirred — a new pressure building behind his eyes, like the system itself was rewriting its own code in real time.

Then the interface exploded in pure golden light, brighter than any notification he had ever seen.

Daniel's breath caught.

The air in front of him shimmered. Three faint silhouettes began to form — translucent, glowing with soft silver-gold light.

First came Elias, still holding the spectral outline of his spear, eyes calm and alert.

Then Reyes, crouched low, fire axe resting on his shoulder.

Finally, Mara, tablet in hand, already scanning the warehouse with a faint smile.

Behind them, two more silhouettes flickered into existence — Vannia's parents, standing hand-in-hand, their faces peaceful rather than frozen in that horrible final smile.

Vannia gasped, rising slowly. Tears spilled down her cheeks again, but this time they were different — not only grief, but something like hope.

"Mom… Dad…?"

The summoned souls turned toward her. Vannia's father spoke first, voice echoing softly like wind through empty corridors.

"We're not gone, kiddo. Not anymore."

Her mother smiled — a real smile, warm and alive. "He brought us back. The one who ended the party."

Daniel stared at his hands, then at the five souls now standing before him like loyal guardians. He could feel them — their knowledge, their pain, their loyalty — flowing into him like an extension of his own system.

Elias stepped forward, spectral form solidifying slightly.

"Outpost Epsilon-19 thanks you, Wanderer-0041… or should I say Chosen-0007. We still have work to do."

Daniel exhaled slowly, the weight of the new ability settling into his core like a second heartbeat.

"Summon Soul," he said aloud, testing the words.

The five figures bowed their heads in unison — not as servants, but as allies who had chosen to answer the call.

Vannia walked forward and stopped just short of touching her parents' translucent forms. She looked back at Daniel, voice thick with emotion.

"You… you gave them back to me. Even if it's only this way."

Daniel met her gaze.

"They were never truly erased. The Backrooms only borrowed them. Now they fight with us."

The warehouse lights steadied. Mia stirred faintly on the ground, still unconscious but no longer twitching from the sanity drain.

Daniel raised the pipe once more. The five summoned souls moved into formation around the three living Chosen — Elias and Reyes taking point, Mara scanning for threats, Vannia's parents standing protectively beside their daughters.

The interface updated one final time:

```
[Summon Soul – Active]
Allies Bound: 5/3 (temporary Pantheon override granted)
New Quest Chain Unlocked: "Legion of the Lost"
Objective: Use summoned souls to reclaim lost outposts and confront the Reaver Syndicate's remaining leaders
```

Daniel looked out across the silent warehouse, the weight of five souls now riding with him.

The Backrooms had taken everything from them.

Now, for the first time, he was taking something back.

And the war for the levels had just gained an army that could never truly die.
