'Is this... the most primal birth of life?'
A puzzled voice suddenly echoed in his ears, and Ash smiled, replying in his mind.
'That's right. But just as Nurse Joy said, every life arriving in this world is a miracle.'
'Then what about me?' The voice was still confused, but its mood seemed much lighter.
'Of course you are too. What, are you looking down on yourself?'
'No, just a bit unexpected... So I'm a miracle too?'
'Isn't that obvious? But I'm telling you, Mewtwo, while I don't mind you using your psychic powers to observe my life here, if you dare peep at night...'
'I'm not that bored.'
Mewtwo. This was the Pokémon Team Rocket created using information brought back by Jessie's mother, Miyamoto, combining Mew's eyelash with discovered ancient super-ancient technology.
After Ash had his showdown with Giovanni, he also met Mewtwo. The result was that Ash and Giovanni spent the entire night talking with this deeply lost and confused entity. Because they hit it off so well, Ash actually borrowed the kitchen, whipped up some dishes, and the three of them—Ash, Giovanni, and Mewtwo—ate and chatted.
After knocking back a few drinks, Giovanni—the big boss of Team Rocket—threw off his suit jacket and dragged Ash and Mewtwo into listening to his life story. In short, that night inexplicably drew Ash, Giovanni, and Mewtwo much closer together. And with Giovanni's permission, Mewtwo began using its psychic powers to observe the Kanto region.
Of course, in Mewtwo's eyes, the Kanto region had both good and bad. There were disgusting scumbags, but there were also people with deep bonds with their Pokémon. And what Mewtwo liked observing the most was actually Ash.
For some reason, when observing Ash and his group, Mewtwo always felt a unique sense of warmth. It was a feeling Mewtwo couldn't quite describe, but it made him want to be right there beside Ash, talking with them.
He frequently watched Ash picking berries with Pikachu, fishing with Meowth, training Charmeleon's claws and flames, brushing Rapidash's back, letting Squirtle eat and drink his fill, finding good plants with Bulbasaur, handling Chansey's spoiled-child acts as if comforting a baby, getting taken advantage of by Gardevoir due to the language barrier, letting Primeape and Psyduck smell incense and giving them massages, playing frisbee with Arcanine, Houndoom, and Mightyena, quietly stargazing with Arbok or Absol, discussing how to raise Dratini with Dragonite and Dragonair, and brewing honey with Beedrill...
Every time Ash spent one-on-one time with his Pokémon, Mewtwo saw it all. That vibe of Ash just hanging out with his Pokémon outside of training made Mewtwo feel incredibly warm. Because of this, he would sometimes inadvertently chat with Ash telepathically. And every time they talked, Mewtwo felt something else entirely—it felt like chatting with family. Even though Mewtwo had no concept of what "family" really meant, that's just how he felt.
And it wasn't just Ash. After learning that the horde of Alpha Pokémon in the mountains behind Pallet Town belonged to Ash, Mewtwo observed them too. That was when Mewtwo realized those Alpha Pokémon already treated Ash as family. They would frequently visit Delia and Rin, or secretly protect them. This kind of emotion was no longer something a Poké Ball could bind.
Moreover, Mewtwo had also chatted with the Millennial Gastly and learned a lot about Ash's past when he was Sir Aaron.
"Aaron... no, he should be called Ash now. Ash and his partner Lucario were the ones who ended the war. Even though that guy kept saying he really didn't want to get involved, he didn't want to care... in the end, didn't they walk together to the very end?"
'So do you think staying at Ash's house like this, instead of traveling with him, makes you happy?'
"Hahaha! Isn't that obvious? It's precisely because he trusts me that Ash called Arbok away. I've waited for a thousand years. A mere few months is nothing. Besides, don't you think it's pretty nice this way?"
'I cannot comprehend it.'
"That's because you're still too young. Take your time and look at this world. There are a lot of interesting things in it."
Chatting with Gastly benefited Mewtwo greatly. Now, after witnessing the conception of a new life, Mewtwo looked forward even more to the future—when he adjusted himself and could step out to see the world.
Because of the Dragonair situation, Ash and the gang had to put their journey on hold and wait for Professor Oak to arrive. While they could have just transferred Dragonair over, for safety's sake, it was better to wait for an authority like Professor Oak to come in person. After all, Dragonair was pregnant with the offspring of a super-ancient Dragonite.
Seeing the situation, Ash also sent a call to Lusamine.
"Ash, what's wrong? It's not our scheduled daily call time yet, is it?" Lusamine was quite surprised to see Ash calling, as they usually stuck to a fixed schedule.
"It's nothing bad. Dragonair is pregnant. They're Dragonite's kids."
Pfft! Hearing this news, Lusamine did a massive spit-take. What the hell? Dragonite was that much of a dirty old pervert?
"Dragonite is really..." Lusamine didn't even know what to say. Dragonite truly was... something else.
"Yeah, I really didn't expect it either. I'm planning to have Professor Oak help take Dragonair back to look after her. Oh, and by the way, if you have time, you should bring Gladion and Lillie over to take a look... maybe you can get a Dratini to willingly follow you. I'm also planning to invite Cynthia over when she has time. She trained her Garchomp exceptionally well, so maybe she'll have an easier time training a Dratini."
"Alright, I'll make time to visit. But how many Dratinis do you even have over there?" Although Ash had mentioned it before, Lusamine wasn't clear on the exact number.
Without a second thought, Ash replied, "Twelve. I didn't expect Dragonair to be so fertile either. Maybe it's because I supplemented her nutrition a bit too well back then?"
Lusamine hadn't expected Dragonair to be a hero-mother-level existence. That was way too capable!
"Right now, if you guys come over, there should be a few Dratinis left to try your luck with. Out of respect for me, Misty, Suzie, Lara, and Karen all have a Dratini following them now. So if you want to try, come quickly. I won't force the Dratinis against their will."
"I understand. Honestly, if the Dragon-tamer clan found out you could get Dratinis to willingly follow people just off your face value, they'd probably come over and beg to cling to your thighs."
"Hah, that Flying-type Elite's family? I'll pass. Anyway, bring them over quickly when you have time."
"Honestly, got it. And you better be careful yourself. I'm not joking! If you dare carelessly die again, I'll resurrect you first just so I can kill you! And then I'll commit double suicide with you!"
Hearing Lusamine's words, Ash could only wipe the cold sweat from his forehead. "Understood, wifey. Absolutely won't happen again!"
"Good! Love you!"
After hanging up, Lusamine noticed Gladion and Lillie staring at her in sheer terror. "What's wrong?"
Lillie and Gladion couldn't exactly say that their adoptive mother's aura just now was absolutely horrifying... They believed their adoptive mother's words were 100% true. If their dad Ash dared to die, she absolutely would resurrect him, kill him, and then take the resurrected Ash with her in a lover's suicide. Absolutely...
