They sat on the damp sand in silence for a while.
Kaira did not speak. She could not.
Finn ran a hand through his hair, his gaze fixed on her face, still wet with tears, still trembling despite her effort to hold herself together.
Slowly, he leaned closer. His fingers brushed against her cheek as he wiped away the tears that had not yet dried. Then he reached up and tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear, his touch lingering for just a moment longer than necessary.
"You have been crying for too long," he said quietly.
Kaira let out a weak breath, her eyes lowering.
"I do not know what to do anymore," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "Everything is falling apart… and I cannot stop it."
Finn watched her closely, his expression softening. "Then stop trying to hold everything at once," he said. "Tell me what happened."
For a moment, she hesitated before she turned to him. Then her lips parted slightly as she stared into his eyes.
