Chapter 68 - The Memory That Starts Disappearing

Mira woke up with a strange feeling.

Not fear.

Not confusion.

Something worse.

A quiet emptiness.

She sat up slowly on her bed.

Her room looked the same.

Everything was normal.

But something felt… missing.

Her brows furrowed.

"What is it…" she whispered.

Her hand moved to her chest.

A tight feeling.

Like she had forgotten something important.

Her heart started beating faster.

"No…" she murmured.

Her eyes quickly scanned the room.

The notebook.

The table.

Her phone.

Her phone.

She grabbed it instantly.

His chat was still open.

Her fingers trembled slightly.

She scrolled up.

The messages were there.

Everything was there.

Then why did it feel like something was slipping away?

Her breath became uneven.

"I need to see him…" she whispered.

Without thinking—

She typed.

"Are you free?"

The reply came quickly.

"Yes. What happened?"

Mira swallowed.

Her fingers moved fast.

"I think something is wrong."

A pause.

Then—

"What?"

Her heart pounded.

"I don't know…" she whispered.

She typed—

"I feel like I'm forgetting something."

The typing dots appeared instantly.

Then—

"Forgetting what?"

Mira froze.

Because that was the problem.

She didn't know.

Her chest tightened.

"I don't remember…" she whispered.

Her fingers typed exactly that.

"I don't remember."

Silence.

Then—

"Mira, calm down."

Her breathing was already unsteady.

"Calm down…" she repeated softly.

But she couldn't.

Because the feeling was getting stronger.

Like something inside her mind—

Was slowly being erased.

Her fingers shook.

"Let's meet."

The reply came immediately.

"Same place?"

Her heart skipped.

The rooftop.

She hesitated for a second.

Then typed—

"Yes."

When she reached the rooftop—

He was already there.

Waiting.

Just like always.

Mira walked toward him quickly.

"I don't feel right," she said.

Her voice slightly shaky.

He stepped closer.

"What happened?"

She tried to explain.

But the words felt… incomplete.

"I…" she started.

Then stopped.

Her brows furrowed.

Because suddenly—

Her mind went blank.

"What were you saying?" he asked gently.

Mira looked at him.

Confused.

"I… I don't know…" she whispered.

Her heart dropped.

Because that had never happened before.

She always remembered.

Even the strange things.

Even the impossible things.

But now—

There was nothing.

Just emptiness.

Her hands trembled.

"This isn't normal…" she said.

He nodded.

"I know."

She looked around the rooftop.

The same place.

The same bench.

The same sky.

But something felt different.

Colder.

Distant.

Her eyes slowly returned to him.

And suddenly—

Her breath caught.

Because for a split second—

His face felt unfamiliar.

Her heart skipped violently.

"No…" she whispered.

He noticed immediately.

"What?" he asked.

Mira shook her head.

"N-nothing…" she said quickly.

But it wasn't nothing.

Because that feeling—

That unfamiliarity—

It was growing.

Slowly.

Dangerously.

She took a small step back.

Trying to steady herself.

"Tell me what's happening," he said softly.

Mira looked at him.

Really looked at him.

His eyes.

His face.

His expression.

And suddenly—

Another memory flickered.

The room.

The conversation.

Her asking—

"Will you stay?"

His silence.

Her heart tightened.

"I remember something…" she whispered.

He stepped closer.

"What?"

Her voice trembled.

"That moment…"

He frowned slightly.

"What moment?"

Mira's chest tightened again.

"The one where we separate…"

His expression changed.

Serious now.

"Tell me."

Mira closed her eyes.

Trying to hold onto it.

But suddenly—

It started fading.

Her breath caught.

"No… no…" she whispered.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

She shook her head.

"It's going away…" she said.

Her voice breaking slightly.

"I can't remember it clearly…"

Her hands clenched.

Because she had just remembered it.

Just seconds ago.

And now—

It was slipping away.

Like sand through her fingers.

"This is bad…" he said quietly.

Mira nodded.

"Yes…"

Because now—

It made sense.

The rule.

The loop.

The cycle.

Something wasn't just controlling their meetings.

It was controlling their memories too.

Her voice came out in a whisper.

"It doesn't want me to remember…"

He froze.

Because he understood immediately.

"Yes," he said.

"It's trying to stop you."

Mira's heart raced.

Because that meant—

She was getting closer to the truth.

And something—

Didn't want that.

Her fingers slowly reached for his hand.

She didn't think.

She just held it.

Tightly.

As if that would keep everything from disappearing.

"I don't want to forget…" she whispered.

Her voice soft.

But desperate.

He held her hand back.

Firm.

"You won't," he said.

But his voice wasn't as certain as before.

Because now—

This wasn't just about remembering.

This was about fighting something invisible.

Something powerful.

Something that had been controlling them for a long time.

Mira looked at him again.

Her heart tightening.

Because that same unfamiliar feeling—

Came back.

Stronger this time.

Her grip on his hand tightened.

As if she was trying to hold onto him—

Before she lost him completely.
