Chapter 6 - chapter 6

When the plane landed, a car was already waiting near the runway, ready to take them to the Belmont residence, and Trevor spent the entire ride staring out the window in wonder because it was the first time he had ever left the country, the trip passing relatively quickly until they finally approached the house — and it was only then that Trevor realized Lucius had been extremely humble when he referred to it as simply a "house," for what stood before him was a gigantic mansion, a vast field surrounding the property with carefully maintained gardens that seemed to stretch for hundreds of meters.

When the car passed through a large metal gate ornamented with the Belmont family crest and continued toward the main entrance, Trevor felt his excitement surge at the thought of seeing his new home, and noticing his grandson's enthusiasm, Lucius let out a small laugh. "Easy there, boy. Soon enough you'll know this house like the back of your hand." Trevor seriously doubted that — in fact, he was certain he would need a map just to find the bathroom during his first few days — and another thing he noticed was the number of servants working throughout the property, some tending the gardens, others cleaning windows or organizing different areas of the mansion, making it an incredibly busy place.

"Come on. I'll show you around," Lucius said, handing the luggage to one of the servants before leading Trevor inside, and as soon as they crossed the front door, Trevor found himself standing in an enormous entrance hall with a grand staircase rising in the center, leading to the second floor. "This way. Let's start with your room."

They climbed the stairs and walked down a long corridor lined with doors, the walls decorated with numerous paintings, and as they walked, Trevor studied the portraits, assuming they were his ancestors, though most of them he didn't recognize — but one painting caught his attention, an old portrait of a man with brown hair and blue eyes dressed in an elegant dark-blue suit, standing beside a dark-skinned woman with long dreadlocks adorned with small golden ornaments, wearing a beautiful yellow dress and a charming smile, and below the portrait was a small plaque that read: Richter and Annette Belmont. Trevor's mind nearly exploded at that moment because he recognized those names, those faces — they were protagonists of the series he had watched in his previous life — and not knowing how to react, he simply continued following his grandfather.

"We're here," Lucius announced, opening a large wooden door to reveal a room that was enormous, much larger than any bedroom Trevor had ever had in his previous life, with a king-size bed standing in the center, and Trevor didn't hesitate — he jumped straight onto it. "Whoa, easy there, boy. No need to get that excited," Lucius laughed. "This room is yours now." But Trevor barely heard what his grandfather said because he was too busy enjoying how soft the bed was, which felt like lying on a cloud. "Glad you like it," Lucius said, crossing his arms. "Come on. I'll show you the kitchen. After that trip you must be starving."

At the word food, Trevor immediately jumped to his feet and followed his grandfather to the dining room, and after everything he had already seen, he wasn't even that surprised by the size of the room anymore — he simply sat down at the table and waited while one of the maids brought breakfast, and when the food arrived, Trevor attacked the plate like a starving beast, which earned a few laughs from both the maid and Lucius. "Tastes good, boy?" his grandfather asked, and Trevor replied with his mouth full, "Mmm-hmm," while making a solemn decision in his head: no matter what, he would learn the secrets of that cook.

After eating, Lucius had some matters to attend to and left Trevor free to explore the mansion, telling him, "If you need anything, you can ask any of the staff for help," and as soon as he was alone, Trevor immediately returned to the corridor filled with family portraits — though unfortunately, he didn't recognize anyone else — but his curiosity only grew stronger, and with the help of one of the maids, he eventually found the Belmont family library, an enormous room where countless shelves were filled with books: history books, combat manuals, works of literature, and Trevor immediately felt like he had found his favorite place in the entire mansion because in his previous life, he had always dreamed of having a library, and now that dream had finally come true.

But before simply enjoying the place, he needed to find something specific, so he began searching through the shelves for a book about the history of the Belmont family, and after some time looking, he found a red-covered book that looked very similar to the one his mother used to read stories to him. Immediately, he pulled a chair over and climbed onto it to reach the book, still having to stand on his tiptoes because the book was large and heavy, and when he finally managed to pull it free from the shelf, he lost his balance and fell off the chair. "Argh… who thought it was a good idea to put such a heavy book so high up?" he muttered, but that didn't matter — he quickly stood up, brushed the dust off his clothes, and placed the book on a nearby table, and on the cover was the Belmont family crest, making Trevor smile because he had found the right book.

The pages were slightly yellowed with age, and he began flipping through them, discovering that the story was very similar to what he remembered from the games in his previous life: everything began with Leon Belmont, a knight of the Crusades who abandoned everything to rescue his fiancée, the first to fight against vampires and the one who created the legendary whip, the Vampire Killer, with the help of a druid, the weapon forged through the sacrifice of his fiancée, Sara Trantoul, whose soul was used to give the whip its power — a pure soul that willingly sacrificed itself so that no one else would have to suffer the same fate, and as the centuries passed, the will of countless Belmonts joined that purpose, making the Vampire Killer the perfect weapon against the creatures of darkness.

Trevor was so absorbed in his reading that he didn't even notice someone approaching until a voice shouted, "Boo!" and he nearly jumped out of his chair. "Ahhh!" Lucius stood behind him, and the old man burst into laughter at the frightened look on his grandson's face. "That's not funny! I almost died here!" Trevor protested, but Lucius kept laughing. "Haha… it seems we'll have to improve your awareness and your senses, boy." Trevor was annoyed, but he didn't reply because he knew his grandfather was right.

Lucius then glanced at the book and asked, "Oh? Curious about our family's history?" and Trevor replied a bit awkwardly, "After seeing so many ancestors I didn't recognize… I got curious," slowly closing the book before adding, "Mom told me some stories… but not as complete as the ones in this book." Lucius nodded and said, "It's good to see you taking interest in our family's history," placing a hand on Trevor's shoulder. "If you have any questions, you can ask me." He paused for a moment before continuing, "By the way, I've already arranged your studies. You'll be studying at home," and when Trevor looked up, Lucius added, "I've hired several private tutors." Then came the words that made Trevor's eyes widen: "And starting tomorrow… you'll begin the Belmont family training." Trevor quickly nodded, and after that he followed his grandfather to see the rest of the mansion, but although he was amazed by everything around him, his mind was focused on only one thing — what the training would be like the next day.
