Chapter 24 - Thug

The Shadow Realm was unique. It was connected to every realm.

"The simple fact that [Shadow Lantern] still functions in the War Realm or Waking World is amazing. It's a fully functioning gateway to another realm that can be opened and closed at will. It truly is worth being Divine," Sunny thought.

The Waking World rejected beings that were of higher rank and it was incredibly disconnected from the other realms. Other than the Shadow Realm of course. So it was safe to say the [Shadow Lantern] was amazing.

Sunny looked up at the middle aged Soverien floating in the sky. The shock was gone, and filled with a mild curiosity, or maybe he was just analyzing the situation.

Sunny manifested a pair of dark wings. If Anvil had a semblance of mind, he would try to open a gate back to the Waking World.

"Who are you and what do you want?" Anvil asked as he readied his sword.

"A friend and I just need a favor. " Sunny replied as the [Weaver's Mask] twisted his flaw as he answered.

Unfortunately, Serpent was still out with the Shadow Cohort. They were trying to help Nightmare achieve a new rank, so Sunny summoned [The Thrill].

Sunny's speed increased as he flew dangerously fast to the Sovereign. The Sacred weapon clashed with Anvil's. Anvil didn't even look at Sunny but was staring at that blade.

After a few more clashes in the air, both the Sovereigns touched the ground.

Anvil spoke calmly as if confirming his doubts.

"To think another Sovereign would appear. We didn't think anyone would be able to clear the Fourth Nightmare." Anvil said.

"It was only a matter of time. You and Ki Song are sorry excuses for humanity's leaders," Sunny said. His true voice was dripping with venom when he said that, alas, the [Weaver's Mask] obscured the true nature of his voice to hide his identity.

"Is that what this is about?" Anvil replied as he unsummoned a sword. Only to summon a new one. Its handle was red, embroidered with beautiful golden markings. The sword itself seemed flawless, and the blade was a polished sliver. It was polished so perfectly that it reflected the world back on itself.

"You think-

Sunny moved forward. Before, he was only augmented by two shadows as he neared Anvil his strength soared as he wrapped four more around his body.

Anvil moved his blade to parry the sword, but he was caught unaware. The strength of the blow pushed back his sword. His grip was tight on the blade, so his entire upper body went backwards momentarily. Blood dripped down from his hands where he gripped the sword.

BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM!

The swords clashed as Anvil brought it back and collided with the blade, and each time Anvil lost a bit more and lurched backwards with pain in his hands. The sword chipped and whittled away each time it went against the Sacred blade.

Anvil's craftsmanship had never failed like it was failing today.

A few more clashes and the sword completely broke.

Quickly thinking Anvil summoned the storm of blades from his soul sea. It was his reserves just in case the other swarm became unusable, today his reserves would be used for the first time he'd ever become a Soverien a decade ago.

The entire Shadow Realm seemed to come alive as Sunny manipulated the very ground they stood on.

An entire replica of shadow swords clashed against Anvil's. There was genuine surprise plastered right on Anvil's face. However, the difference was soon made clear. Anvil's swords were better. They cleaved through Sunny's shadow blades but -

Anvil's eyes widened. The blades, they were never-ending. The Shadow blades would continue to come alive so long as Sunny had essence. Which his domain and Shadow Realm gave him an near endlessly supply.

"You-

Sunny unsummoned his sword as he shadow stepped behind Anvil.

Anvil spun on his heel, bringing a new sword out. This time it was made from the very armor he was wearing.

Sunny caught Anvil's wrist that was wielding the blade, and Anvil tried to counter by punching Sunny with his free hand.

Before that ever happened, Sunny brought down his fist first.

The powerful fist smashed into Anvil and left him dazed.

It's not every day you get punched by a Supreme Titan.

The blows didn't stop there. Sunny continued by pulling Anvil down and pinning him as Anvil's fell out of his grip.

Sunny continued smashing into the defenseless King as he tried to block the blows.

With his back against the floor Anvil attempted to escape. He commanded his armor. Whatever was left of it to fly backwards on the floor, and he only went a few meters before he was stopped.

The floor leapt to life as it wrapped around Anvil and tore into his armor like wicked vines.

Sunny approached the sorry Anvil and continued. This time, the Shadows were wrapped around Anvil tightly.

Left, Right, Left, Right. Sunny cycled his punches as he achieved a rhythm.

Sunny turned Anvil's face into a drum as he methodically rained down blows on his face.

After a moment of reprieve, Anvil said a single word.

"You!"

WHAM! WHAM! WHAM! WHAM!

The punches continued, uninterested in what Anvil would say.

Spitting out blood. Anvil shouted this time.

"YOU THUG!"

Smiling behind the mask, Sunny continued his melody.

The seconds turned into minutes as Sunny constructed face surgery on the poor Sovereign.

Before long, Sunny felt Anvil's strength weakening as he tried to free himself from the shadow binds. His resistance became incredibly pitiful, and so Sunny stopped.

"I don't need to kill the sorry excuse anyway." Sunny thought.

Chances were that Anvil was definitely going to continue struggling before he died. That was simply in the nature of someone who challenges Nightmare spell trials and lived for so long. They all clung to life fiercely.

"King of Swords." Sunny started to speak. It was words he had prepared a long time ago for Anvil. A simple memory that recorded his voice playing.

It was the [Extraordinary Rock].

"A pitiful name, but when one understands it, the better they can truly see you for what you are. Your title is your view on the people of your domain, your view on your subordinates, and your view on your friends and family. Everyone is just a blade to you, aren't they?" Sunny said.

Continuing, Sunny spoke.

"You have no regard for anyone. Your flaw saw to that as it turned you into an unfeeling monster. You viewed people as objects to get around your flaw. Someone like you could never be fit to rule." Sunny let his words hang in the air as he looked at the sorry sight.

Anvil's face was unrecognizable. His eyes were swollen shut, and he was missing too many teeth as well.

"Listen here and listen well, King of Swords. Before you are two options. Kneel and submit to me or die. You are unfit to be a King." Sunny waited a moment again.

Nephis had once mentioned that Anvil was similar to hollows, and she was right. Hollow people were awakened or dormant, who died in the Dream Realm or failed to find a citadel in some place that was deserted place after the winter solstice. They were empty husks that looked like people lacking their souls.

Anvil had discarded too many human emotions. It was obvious.

"Cassie had once told me after looking through Jest's memories that he couldn't feel fear. So that means that he knows no fear of death." Sunny thought

However, for the same reason, Anvil shouldn't really possess pride, arrogance, or an ego either. That was the key to understanding Anvil, and it's why that its possible to work together with him.

'Nephis and I could rule together because they didn't believe one was better than the other.' Sunny thought.

"So long as you do what you're told, I'll let you hold on to your domain for the time being as well, but if you don't..." Sunny gave the man a silver lining and a threat in the same breath.

Anvil struggled to speak as his face was incredibly bruised and swollen.

"Al-, Wlright Beal" Anvil said. His words came out wrong as his face was too damaged to speak correctly.

"Good." Sunny replied. Looking off into the distance there it seemed like something was there in the distance, staring.

"I think we overstayed our welcome." Sunny thought.

Opening a gate to the Waking World, Sunny dragged Anvil by the foot. His long vermillion cape followed behind pathetically as it dragged across the floor like its owner.

On the outskirts of NSQC, Sunny opened one more gate. This time to the Forgotten Shore.

Waiting on the other side was Kai.

Sunny walked through, dragging Anvil by the foot.

"How did it g-" His eyes bulged when he saw what Sunny dragged in. His mouth hung open as he forgot what he was saying.

"Once he's done healing, we'll head out. We'll have some fun and head to the Underworld." Sunny said.

"It's a bit of a lie since there was no fun promised to us in the Underworld, but to make a statement like that, I needed a lie, since I'm wearing the mask." Sunny thought.
