"It almost killed you guys?" Sunny asked.
Anvil answered with a distant expression.
"Naturally, because a perfect mixed being can repair the Annihilation Border and allow it to regenerate faster. Its strength is somewhere in the Cursed rank. At the time, fighting it was a death sentence." Anvil said.
All three of the men how simmilar thoughts. That seems like an extremely annoying ability to deal with. They had to deal with a being that could repair a border if they sliced through and then somehow kill it on top of that. Which would be nearly impossible, that is if they where alone.
"Luckily, this is the part where we got lucky. Broken Sword had managed to acquire a Supreme echo. One of the only ones to have been given by the Nightmare Spell. He sent the creature out to meet it in battle."
Continuing, Anvil went on.
"At the time, we were nearly there. At the exit of the Annihilation Border. Slaying some mixed breeds. They knew if they left the Annihilation Border and entered the gap that we created, they would die. Alas, there is a solution to every problem. Three seconds, they would attack us in three-second intervals. If they left the border for three seconds, they would perish, if they managed to stop Broken Sword for even a second, they would be able to attack us." Anvil said.
Broken Sword seemed to be their only way to get into the Underworld. He was probably extremely exhausted as a mere Saint severing a path all the way across the Annihilation Border.
Sunny wondered about the strange nature of these creatures.
Anvil spoke about the classifications of the Warden's and mentioned how they called a mixed breed relative to the strength of the Great class. The craziest fact about them was revealed shortly after.
"The stronger Warden's strengthen your soul, but the weaker ones are the ones to watch out for. Each one removes a few fragments from your soul core. Killing them is a demerit." Anvil said.
"WHAT?!" Both Kai and Sunny's voices rang out in the mist.
The King of Swords didn't stop, he mentioned more about his experience with the creatures.
"We killed hundreds of them. They would jump into the gap and try to drag us in. At a certain point me, Ki Song, and the Dreamspawn, were all dragged in to try to and delay a near-black Warden. Its strength was that of a Great Terror. If it landed even one attack, we would've been erased from existence, gone. In the end, when we escaped, we paid a price." Anvil finished, not willing to speak about the rest. It seemed like the Dark Wardens strength could instantly erase someone from existence.
Sunny acutely noticed that the battle was extremely dangerous, and whatever he lost, Anvil was not willing to speak about it.
In Anvil's mind, he replayed what he and his cohort had lost.
That day, each of them had lost one of their Aspect Legacy relics. The price was unimaginable. Even the Dreamspawn had lost one of its relics. Although they all had more than one relic, it still hurt. Not willing to share this information with the masked Demon, he quietly hid his losses and only showed his gains of escaping this place alive.
"Alright, we should decide our roles now, then, before more wardens show up." Sunny said.
Although it would be obvious what the roles would be. Anvil would be the one to cut the path. As an heir to War God, it would be impossible for him not to possess a blade to cut down the mist.
He also lived above the Mirror Maze in Bastion. He was uniquely suited to create a blade to cut down the mist. He also made the very charm to seal Mordret. When it came to Nothingness, Mordret was not completely unrivalled. It was also his father who showed unique insights into the source element as well.
The discussion went on for a few moments. They all decided to fall into their respective roles. Anvil would cut down a path, Kai would spot the enemies and use his arrows to slow them, and Sunny would be the main source of damage. As a Supreme Titan, losing a few fragments would amount to nothing, especially if he killed a few Dark Wardens.
"Prepare yourselves," Anvil said, taking a deep breath.
This time, he only summoned one blade. It was completely silver, the unique part was the completely white handle, as if it was forged from Nothingness. In the Hollow Mountains, Anvil could perhaps be the strongest Supreme alive. Of course, second to Mordret.
His blade cleaved down. Filled with the most oppressive 'Will'. If Sunny had to describe it, it would be as if 'Iron Will' made itself known. It was unnmoveable and any area that it claimed would become its forever.
Sunny watched the mist be destroyed completely only to see it regenerate slowly back towards them.
"Let's go" Anvil said.
Summoning the [Shadow Lantern], Sunny entered the Annihilation. The White Warden watching them became antsy. It felt like it could no longer watch them.
Jumping out of the Mist, it launched itself towards Sunny. The top of its body looked extremely muscular, and its arms were incredibly large. It seemed almost comical when comparing it to the rest of its bodies. Its glowing white eyes with dark iris seemed completely irrational.
Sunny didn't want to accept direct combat with the creature unless he needed to. So instead of summoning a blade, he merely controlled the shadows. Anvil had mentioned that other source elements were nearly suppressed here, and it held true.
Sunny's shadow manifestation fell. The shadows completely evaporated in a whirpool of essence.
So he used [The Thrill]. Side-stepping the White Warden, Sunny used his speed. He went with a simple thrust, but coming from a Supreme Titan, the White Warden had no escape. The blade went through its head. The sound of Sunny's thrust was extremely loud as he broke the sound barrier.
The ringing sounded out throughout the area.
Both Anvil and Kai frowned and looked at Sunny. Looking sheepish behind the mask Sunny tried to defend himself.
"Ah, maybe I should've gone with a different attack?" Sunny said a bit embarrassed. He had completely forgotten. Even as a Saint, his speed could easily shatter the sound barrier. Typically, fights above the Transcendent Stage always did. However, all three realised it a bit too late.
"And here I thoguht it be would be common sense to be quiet in here but..., nevermind let's hurry." Anvil's voice was dripping with disappointment.
Laughing, Sunny said, "It's alright, let's hurry."
'I lost a few shadow fragments, but what is the strange feeling I just got when I killed it? Just for a moment, it reminded me of something?' Sunny thought.
This Sunny found himself thinking. There was something odd about these creatures. His shadow manifestation failed, but that was because he didn't imbue 'Will' within it.
Summoning shadows once more, this time Sunny coated it all with 'Will'. It stays well in shape this time. Although Anvil was cutting a path, it didn't necessarily remove all of the strange phenomena. That would most likely take not a Sacred level attack but a Divine one.
Watching Anvil cleave a path forward, Kai's voice was heard.
"Directly in front of us. It's a White Warden, its strength is around Great Demon." Kai said.
It was most likely not a complete White Warden, with a good majority still dark. Sunny watched it approach. It used all four limbs to run, its massive forearms used to propel itself forward each time it struck the floor.
"Careful, the fast ones have battled plenty of times with creatures that invade this place," Anvil said.
His words struck true because the moment it entered the gap, Anvil had cleaved through it seemed like it had something in its hand.
Sunny's shadows moved forward to intercept the creature, but it threw whatever it had in its hands. It was a piece of the Annihilation Border. While these creatures couldn't repair the border. They could fling pieces of it out. Due to the nature of the place they were in, the pieces of the Annihilation wouldn't disappear. It would also be different. Imbuing with a different power, these pieces of Annihilation would annihilate anything right away
The shadow met the pure annihilation, and it disappeared. In a swirl of essence, it disappeared as if it never existed.
Dodging the annihilation, Sunny moved forward, slightly slowed from having to dodge. only to see the White Warden immediately retreat. It was about to reenter the border before an arrow found its mark. This arrow was followed by a command.
"HALT!" Kai's voice rang out as he activated an enchantment at the same time. It froze the creature for less than a second, that was all Sunny needed.
Slashing down sideways, Sunny cut the creature in half. Seperating the top from the bottom and immediately bolted backwards to dodge the creature's last attack. Even as it was dying, it committed to a last-ditch attack.
"Well, that went well. So far, it isn't going too badly," Sunny said.
Anvil continued to cut a path when Kai spoke up.
"Ten more incoming. It seems like they have a Dark Warden with them this time," Kai said.
