ELARA
Hee brought Onyx to a stop near the water, and I slid down with care, heart still beating faster than I wanted to admit.
Draven dismounted after me, his eyes on the lake. He stepped in first and offered a hand. I took it. I jumped when a man rushed out from the trees.
"Hey, it's Neo, he takes care of the boat."
"Oh," I relaxed against him on hearing this.
"Good day Alpha," "Neo," Draven responded with a nod.
We got into the boat and Neo paddled. The boat rocked gently as we drifted out onto the lake. The water was glass, broken only by our quiet passage. Trees bowed over the shore like silent witnesses, their leaves whispering secrets to the wind.
Draven sat across from me, one hand lazily guiding the oar while the other rested against his thigh. His gaze was fixed on the distance, but I could tell his mind wasn't.
"This is soothing," I said, watching the way the light danced in his hair.
His brow lifted slightly. "I know, right?"
