As the sun rose over Thriller Bark, Tony Tony Chopper carefully treated Sonic's injuries from the battles with Bartholomew Kuma and the shared pain from Monkey D. Luffy.
Bandages wrapped around Sonic's shoulder and leg while Chopper made sure he rested.
As Sonic recovered, Brook opened up about his past.
He told the crew about the Rumbar Pirates, the promise he made to his fallen crewmates, and his vow to one day return to Laboon, the whale waiting at the start of the Grand Line.
Hearing that, Sonic's expression softened.
"…He's been carrying that promise all this time."
After the emotional moment, Brook officially joined the Straw Hat Pirates as their musician.
Sonic gave a small smile despite the bandages.
"Then let's make sure you keep that promise."

With Tony Tony Chopper's treatment, Sonic was still healing, so he stayed on deck resting as the Thousand Sunny sailed away from Thriller Bark toward Fish-Man Island.
Even while recovering, he kept an eye on the sea and the crew's surroundings.
During the journey, the Straw Hats suddenly encountered Camie, a cheerful mermaid, along with her talking pet starfish Pappag.
Sonic blinked in surprise at the sight of a mermaid casually speaking with the crew.
"…Okay, the Grand Line somehow keeps getting weirder."
Then Pappag started talking too.
Sonic looked from the starfish to Brook and back again.
"At this point, I'm just accepting everything."
