Chapter 33 - Glowing Flint

Nathan ran through the woods in the direction of gunfire. When he got there he saw Mark shooting at the Wendigo. He ran through the woods as he shot at it.

No matter how many shots he fired at the Wendigo it kept chasing him. Nathan watched as a shadow ran between trees.

Mark once again pulled the trigger but all he heard was a click. He looked back and it was not behind him.

He looked around frantically for it. The wind whistled then he heard leaves rustle behind him.

He turned and something heavy slammed into his chest. The impact sent him flying into a tree branch.

He held his back as he groaned in pain. Moonlight pierced the tree covers and illuminated the Wendigo.

Its thin skin wrapped around its skull revealing every bone sharply outlined beneath it. It had jagged teeth that were visible from any angle.

All the while Nathan ran adjacent to Mark. When he saw the Wendigo attack him. He looked around and picked up one of the many fallen tree branches.

He was walking over to Mark when he smelled something fresh and woody with earthy undertones.

He recognised the smell. He tore a piece of his shirt and wrapped it around one end of the stick.

He then picked up a stone and bashed it against the tree. He rubbed the wrapped stick on the tree to collect its sap.

He patted his pocket and found a lighter.

"Years of camping finally have value," Nathan said and got a little closer before lighting his torch.

He ran to Mark and waved the torch at the Wendigo to keep it back. The Wendigo let out a raspy hiss as it stepped back.

Nathan helped him up and they ran back in the opposite direction.

Meanwhile, in the cabin. Jenny paced as she took puffs off a joint of pot. She heard a knock on the door and rushed to get it.

But before she could one of Greg's friends stopped her.

"Who is it?" the young man asked as he walked to the door. Greg held on to Jenny as they anxiously waited for a response.

"It's me, open up," the person said in Nathan's voice.

The man opened the door and then turned to everyone in the room. He coughed up blood and fell to the ground.

"James!" Greg screamed and lunged at him. Jenny grabbed him just as the door swung open.

In the door was a four-foot Wendigo. Unlike the other one, this one was more human. It had more skin but sunken eyes.

The group stumbled back.

"Run!" Jenny screamed and the couple ran into a small room in the back. The Wendigo walked across the wall to cut them off. The rest ran through the front door.

Among them were Jenny and Greg.

"What are you doing?" Greg asked as Jenny turned around.

"I can not leave them," She replied and Greg nodded.

As she was about to head back in she saw a pitchfork leaning against the tool shed at the side of the cabin.

She grabbed it and slowly walked back into the cabin. At the door, she looked at the slashed James and walked over him.

The group screamed as it clawed them down one by one. Jenny ran and impaled it with the pitchfork.

It shrieked.

She ran it into the cabin walls pinning it. Jenny then put pressure on the leg of one of the people who got trapped in the cabin.

Others who were not severely hurt ran out immediately when the wendigo was impaled.

As Jenny tried to stop the bleeding of one of the Wendigo's victims. It pushed against the wall freeing itself.

It dislocated its shoulder as it reached behind to grab the pitchfork. Its bone snapped as it disfigured itself.

It grabbed the pitchfork with both hands and pulled it out. It was about to attack Jenny when Nathan hit it with his stick.

It stumbled and turned around. Nathan turned the other end of the stick, which glowed due to the residue of the sap.

Nathan jammed it into its heart and it combusted. It shrieked as it burnt to char.
