Chapter 40 - Leaving Morthal - Chapter 40

Marcus went back to his room and sat down on his bed after several hours of training.

To tell the truth, he learned many things that he thought it would not be possible to learn in such a short time and understood why he needed to pay about one hundred septims for just this training.

From outside it may seem like it was expensive, but now that he experienced it himself, he understood that it was a pretty good deal.

"Now."

"Ice Spike, Conjure Flame Atronach, Fortify Athletics."

"These three spells and existing spells will greatly enhance what I have."

"From now on, then, if I learn these, I will have some understanding of most of the spells."

"I will have enough protection against most of the dangers."

Marcus thought.

Now that he got many things, he wanted to continue his journey to Winterhold.

He never forgets that his real wish is to understand the secrets even more and reach the CHIM state.

These magic spells and everything are just some assurance and protection for him.

A means to the end.

"Now."

"I should get going and learn these spells."

"Enough to cast them."

"Then, I will go and leave this city, Morthal."

It will take me at least fifteen to twenty days to reach the Winterhold.

"I will not stop until I arrive and will not visit any other places."

"I am getting too sidetracked."

Marcus started working on the first spell.

"Ice Spike."

The time passed without much event; in a sense, nothing too exciting happened in Morthal.

Due to its location, if something big were to happen, it would mean that there is huge chaos.

From time to time, Marcus got news from the civil war between the Stormcloak camps and the Empire camps.

He also saw a regiment of people to move.

Morthal was some sort of a double city.

It was close to Solitude, so its connection to the Empire was always there and managed by it in most of the cases.

But it also has a connection to the Stormcloak supporters.

On the roads that connect Dawnstar and Morthal, there are skirmishes between two sides.

But nothing that big.

While Marcus kept on living in Morthal, other than studying the spells, theorizing and researching about his mind and his studies.

He only worked making basic health potions and nothing more.

One day, he needed to make potions for the Morthal due to some empire soldiers arriving from the skirmishes and needed potions.

The healers were not many, and potions were the best to use when it comes to helping a soldier to regenerate.

As this was a real-life example of the world, drinking a potion helped more passively than directly.

A soldier with a grave injury did not get better instantly after drinking a potion, but drinking a potion of health helped him to increase the recovery speed of his body via using magical energy in the body of soldiers.

Marcus, as a known alchemist at this stage, had his chance to observe some of the injured soldiers and how his potions worked.

He wrote down about what he saw and made a new study for himself.

"Every man or mer had some amount of Magicka in their body," Marcus wrote.

"If this Magicka enhanced the body and worked in terms of muscles, bones, and skeletal system of the person."

"The person became more of a dangerous warrior and more powerful."

Marcus made a note.

"A strong and supernatural warrior is a mage-like being who focuses his magicka to increase his body capabilities instead of working on intellectual and mental aspects of it to cast spells and reach out to the skies."

"This does not mean that a warrior has no mental capacity; it is just not used for knowledge but directing it to the body to increase natural defensive capabilities, power of the muscles, and explosive strength."

"A healing potion uses the ingredients and mixes with the magicka inside of the person who drinks it and manipulates the body's magicka to regenerate and heal the body."

Marcus saw that more higher-level warriors, when drinking a healing potion, responded to the healing potion better, and their injuries healed at a faster rate, while it took much more time for an ordinary soldier to heal from it.

"Alchemy is using ingredients to achieve magical effects via liquids and gases."

"These ingredients then used magicka inside of them to interact with magicka inside of the target to achieve the effect."

"Not much different from spells and Magicka theory."

Marcus concluded.

One more month passed as he worked in these matters.

He managed to make 1500 septims and learned three spells after about one and a half months.

Fortify Athletics was the one that took the most time due to his lack of understanding in restoration, but the other two did not take a long time to be learned.

After, he completed what he put his mind on.

Marcus looked at the Morthal for some time and then took his horse and started riding towards Winterhold.

He had a map in his hand that was smaller but more detailed and about the general region.

He did not want to pass by bandit hideouts or skirmishes between the Empire and Stormcloaks and just focus on the journey to Winterhold.

Falion also gave him a letter that he can give to Phinix Gestor about his capabilities as a mage to show that he is not a complete newbie and needs to be shown respect.

Which he gladly accepted.
