Chapter 39 - Falion and Theory Of Magicka - Chapter 39

Marcus thought more and then spoke.

"I guess."

"Ice Spike, Conjure Flame Atronach, Fortify Athletics..."

Falion nodded and said.

"You know that Fortify Athletics is a restoration school of magic, right?"

Marcus nodded.

"I remembered it was."

Falion nodded.

"The total is seventy septims."

Marcus nodded and then paid.

He did not understand the money matters in terms of how Falion arranged it. It seems like he just says what he believes and then goes on with it.

After Marcus bought the spells.

He then asked.

"For six hours of training, paying about one hundred septims is great enough?"

Falion nodded.

"Yeah."

"That is my rate for you."

Marcus nodded and then paid one hundred septims more, spending 170 septims in total.

He had around 830 septims, which is still a great amount.

"Okay," Falion said.

"What do you wish to train?"

Marcus thought and then said.

"I would like to train on Magicka control and theories behind it."

Falion nodded and smiled.

"Good choice."

"I thought you would say that you just want to train in spells and how to do more flashy things."

"It is a good habit that you value the foundation," Falion added.

Marcus smiled.

"Come."

"Let's go to a more secluded place." Falion said, and they entered deeper in the swamp.

After they are relatively secluded in a place.

Falion started talking.

"When you are using Magicka, you are basically using the energy you gather and direct with your mental power according to your imagination and wishes."

"You know how we are able to summon things from the Oblivion and other planes, right?"

Falion asked as he taught.

Marcus nodded.

"Despite how it seems different, it is not."

"Conjuration is just more of a simple transaction in the world of mages and the use of magicka."

"According to the theories and their practical applications."

"Magicka we are producing is just some sort of a payment for the effects we want."

"The more we pay for it, the more ideal and better results we get."

"Now, why when we are greater and mastery over control of magicka increases, we are able to use less magicka to cast the same spell for an even higher effect and more powerful version of it?" Falion asked.

Marcus closed his eyes for a moment and then answered. Truth be told, he did think about these things all the time, as other than thinking, theorizing, and practicing, he did not have anything to do.

Not considering potion-making a hassle for himself, it is just a means to an end.

"I believe we are learning to use our magicka more effectively."

"Also, if we go from your theory, it is simply that we learn better at haggling with the laws of our universe."

Falion laughed out loud.

"Haha."

"Great, Marcus, really great."

"That is the core of magicka use and spending it."

"When you control your magicka better, you are gaining the mastery of haggling, which makes you able to buy the effect you want while spending less of it."

"A novice may need to spend ten magicka to cast a simple fireball, even more in many cases."

"But a master may need only one Magicka, due to him or her knowing how to control his or her Magicka."

Marcus nodded.

"What is the secret of it?"

Falion smiled.

"There is not much of a secret other than your knowledge, your understanding of your own power, your self."

"If you know how to use your 'mind' to connect to your magicka in your soul and body, you will direct in better ways."

"You will find that there are shortcuts."

Falion looked at the dead small branches and then smiled at them.

With his smile, the branch lit up a fire and then started burning.

"I just imagined my magicka lighting up a fire at that tree branch while commanding and directing my mind to power off my wish."

"Because I am so confident in myself and have years of experience under my belt, I know what I need to feel and how to act with myself and my magicka to achieve the result that I would like to achieve."

"Try it."

"You do not need spells to achieve such effects against unprotected environments."

Marcus took a deep breath and nodded.

He observed a different dead branch of a tree on the ground and wished for it.

Something powered up within his mind and body.

But the effect is not there.

Falion whispered.

"Do not force the effect; believe that you are paying for it."

"Because you are not using hand casting and an already existing spell to do so and lack the mastery, it will cost more, but it will be great training." Falion added.

Marcus nodded and then concentrated again on the dead branch.

"I am paying for it."

"I am sacrificing my own magicka for it."

"To burn, to form the flames, the heat, and the power."

Marcus thought as he mentally focused.

A second later, something happened.

A small kindling fire manifested, and then a second later, it burst out.

"Great!"

"Very good," Falion said.

Marcus nodded and smiled happily as he looked at the fire that was burning.

Falion then said.

"You have learned how to cast simple magical effects without using any hand gestures or spells, but purely from your soul and mind."

"It costs a lot to achieve magical effects this way due to not having the cutting edge of hand gestures and correct ways that are devised and improved over many years."

"But it is great for simple things and theory."

"When you master it, you will be seeing that it is pretty easy to cast spells with hands and the traditional way."
